Well, I could not make it to XSEast this year, but I did get out for a couple hundred miles on Sunday. Took the long way through the river towns of South East Indiana. Here are a few shots.
In this area of the country, we still use Barges for a lot of transportation of raw materials. If you look through the trees, you can see the Tug and a nice length of barges.
Up river view, a small park and a mix of industrial in the same view...
If you can read the sign, it says Rising Sun...No this is not a house in New Orleans.....
However they have the most interesting marketing I have seen in a long time....the sign says "Rising Sun, The Barge Viewing Capitol of the Ohio River"
As you cruise through small town that time forgot after small town that time forgot it is interesting to see the signs letting you know you entered "Switzerland" ..ok Switzerland County, then after going through Patriot Indiana, a town with one stop sign, and a stop light, you come to Florence, Indiana which has a Marina and a firehouse, no stop sign, no stop light..and as you continue on back into farm fields, you round a corner to THIS...
You start to wonder, what time warp space travel just occurred...Yes, this is a Casino in the middle of no where Indiana!! And just on the other side, your back to farmland and small historical river towns.
As I neared my planned destination, Clifty Falls Park, which I did a ride report on last year I think, the sky got dark and cloudy, so I headed back East and North. Came to an Indiana State Park with this entrance....
Then back toward home I came to the little town of Lawrenceburg Indiana. This building was my office for about 3 or 4 years...
This was the view down the street. On the other side of that clock is the Ohio River....
Never buy a vacuum at Luke's. When they are open for business, they sit all the vacuums on the side walk....where they stay all day....Rain, shine, or all day heavy storm!
Here is the other side of the clock, a little restaurant I have had more than a few good lunches at.....
This view you can see the new City Center being built on the left. The black structure in front is where that clock hangs. In the back ground you can maybe just make out the power plant I worked at for several years in the mid 90s.....
And downstream...what do you know...another power plant....
Might not have made it to XSEast, bust I did get to see some very nice roads and enjoy some of the lands that time forgot. A nice break from the Citified areas of the world.
