  • Need Dragon Advice

Taking my son to the Dragon @ Deals Gap first monday in June to celebrate his 10th birthday. I'm approaching from the south, heading up 129 from GA. It will be a 2 day trip, 1 up, and 1 down. As I have never done the Dragon, I'd be grateful for tips/suggestions on places to go and somewhere (cheap cheap) for us to stay.

Thanks! I look forward to hearing from some Dragon vets.

    Peace!

    Hi Mike,
Good idea The Dragon is just one of the roads one should ride in that area. Cherohala skyway and Hellbender are two of my favourites.
Cherokee NC has some reasonable Motels TWO in Suches may be open by then.

      Mike,

Do you remember the restaurant we rode to in Tellico Plains? It is also a motorcycle lodge. http://thecottonpickininn.com/

For cheap, I like Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground. It's doable from the gap.

        Phil and Marty,

Thanks for your replies. My son and I are really amped about our trip. I think we'll wind up taking 3 days, not two ....

I decided to stay at the Simple Life campground Jun 2-3 (Sun/Mon) Really cheap cabins, located well, it appears. www.thesimplelifecampground.com

If anyone is interested in joining us for any/all of our adventure, let me know!

        Peace,

My suggestion would be to stay off it, especially with a 10 year old. Lots of equal to or better roads to be had there.

The BRP is safer, and kids like tunnels! Dragon is best on weekdays.

              Dean and Marty,

Thanks for your thoughts. My son has been riding with me since he was 3, and we've taken several all day trips together. We should arrive Sunday late afternoon.... maybe to the BRP that night, and the dragon and cherohalla on monday? Keep those suggestions coming!

                Hi Mike,
The road from Cherokee to Gatlinburg (or vice versa) is a great ride too be sure to stop at the top for the view that gives the Smokey Mountains their name ( most days)
