  • Different type of ride report

Beautiful morning this morning, 58 degrees (F), and sunny. The ride was only 25 miles and included a stop over for breakfast.
What made this special? This was the first solo ride on public roads with traffic for my wife since she got her motorcycle permit!
She passed the MSF course last week but didn't have enough confidence to play in traffic until this morning.

          Ride

          Thanks everyone.

Bill, we won't make it for the Dogwood but we are planning for the Oct ride again.

Sue can't reach the ground on the xs so I got her a 1997 Suzuki Intruder 800.

Sue and one of her friends (neither one had ever ridden before) both wanted to learn to ride, so I gave them some basic instruction and practice one day a week for several weeks before they took the course. They both passed the course on their first try.

Tell Mary to go for it!

It's cool when swmbo learns to ride, and gets her own...that is unless her scoot is faster than yours. Case in point, my wife. Her first bike was a Honda 450 Night Hawk. Great little bike, but not much in the performance department. She wasn't tall enough to ride the 79XS750SF that I had. Thet's when we decided to find an XJ11 for her to ride. Found one that the PO had begun to restore, and in our search for parts, we stumbled upon a complete running bike, but it major trans issues. Shortly into the resto job there was a conflict of how some jobs should be done. I had already restored Twilite Special, and worked in more than one body shop, but she had her own ideas on how things should be done. Well, that lead to a major disagreement, and she went out and found her own bike. An 84 FJ1100.
Now mind you, the view from the back is nice, but just knowing that I can't change that kinda bothers me. When I try to pass, she just kicks it down a gear, twists the right wrist and pulls away. It's just not right... But on the other hand, the 1179cc big bore project is under way as we speak... The pistons and cylinders are at the machine shop. The head has been sand blasted, combustion chambers, and exhaust ports polished, valves inspected and lapped in. New valve seals will be installed today or tomorrow. New cam chain and gasket set has been ordered, and a new clutch is not far away.

              Walt,

Nice job. Any advice as to how to talk my wife into learning? She's too content to sit pillion and enjoy. I wouldn't mind the freedom of a solo for a change!

              Good going, Mrs. Walt.

Hey, how about a survey poll of how many ladies are on the site? Wondered what the ratio is.
