  • NW Wisc ride

Had the pleasure of riding with some of the Lost rally folks yesterday. Met up in Hayward and headed north, Dragon had a bear cross in front of him just out of town, not sure if he tried to hit it or not. Went through part of the Chequamegon National Forest on the way up. The trees were starting to turn and was perfect weather. Ended up in Washburn Wisc. on Lake Superior. The guys checked in and we hung around for a while and shot the sh#t. Due to some other obligations today I couldn't stay but they were more then kind enough to invite me to stay in one of the cabins. I headed back taking the highways back and home a little after 8pm. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone and I hope you enjoyed my neck of the woods and I appreciated the chance to meet everyone and the hospitality and tips. If possible I will host a run/rally next summer. Thanks again everyone.

This was taken at the Perkins parking lot before we headed out.

I gave some thought to hitting the bear so we could have BBQ'd bear for supper but he was not fat enough so after a brief moment of panic I let him go.

Was fun riding with you, we HAVE to do it again. Next time you suggest an alternative route I AM going to listen to you better!

I hope to host a run next summer, I don't have a big place but I have a huge field to camp in,a great little bar within walking distance and motels just down the road within walking distance also. They had a big Bike rally at the local casino so maybe I'll try for the same date as that. They also do a big run and bike show, also have a outdoor concert. I'll update wwhen I get more info. everyone is welcome to attend.

I wasn't able to make it to the Lost Rally at Gary's place this summer due to changing jobs but I was able to help Nicki and James out with Nicki's bike so she could make it.

Gary's been down here but Nicki, James, Peter, and Pappa Smurf haven't. Y'all need to come do some riding in north west Arkansas.

            Hey you Wisconsinites!!
I'm a Badger from way back when. Graduated in '76..!!! After graduation I had a friend with a Kawy 400 enduro, one of the first. Had a lot of fun riding in the outskirts of Madison. Traded him my car for the bike during most days, lots of dropped panties as a result. Fun times. Love Wisconsin.

I am not sure that Mad Town is part of Wisconsin, maybe it was back then but we up here have not seen it for a LONG time now.

Actually, there is some decent riding around Madison. I lived in Mt. Horeb and both SWMBO and I worked at the UW-Madison campus.

Riding is mostly rolling hills and nice curvy roads. Ride out to Gov. Dodge State Park is typical. Many backroads have nice "S" curves and almost all are paved. Wisconsin also has a series of "Rustic Roads" that wander through rural areas and these are often pleasant rides.

I was on my XS 400 for a lot of my time, but bought the XJ to handle longer rides in more comfort. That was back in '99.

We actually had the first Wisconsin XS rally in 2000, I think, when several of us got together (will have to check the photos) in the southern part of the state for a 1-day ride. This was my first experience at an XS rally.

I grew up in Wisconsin, moved to Colorado then Oregon, back to Wisconsin, then out to Arizona and then back to Colorado. Every state has some good riding, but running the backroads of Wisconsin, particularly in the fall color season, ranks right up there for just plain fun.

                A side note:
That little '82 400 was really well suited for back-road riding. As much as I like my XJ and Concours, some of the best times I had were flinging that little bike through those S-curves. I often wish I had not sold it shortly after getting the XJ.
