{here are Sid's accounts of the goings-on at his place in
    Ladysmith, Vancouver Island, BC. I have inserted photos}

{if any attendees have photos they think are appropriate
for inclusion, either post them here yourself, or send them
    to me to edit into this report}

    {my comments all in curly brackets}

Ken Talbot and his wife Sheila, arrived on Tuesday at about noon, and
checked their stuff into the house and were off to see "relys" in Duncan,
just down the road. They came back about three and we all went to the
beach for a swim and then had a nice roast beef dinner here at home. Early
to bed and up at 7;00 for our ride around the great circle route. B-fast
at Lake Cowichan and then a nice lazy four hour ride through the hills and
lakes of the surrounding area from lakes to ocean and then home.
    {Ken and Sheila are really leaving here, not arriving, but hey}

    {Horst, Sid, Ken, Tom, Sheila}

I had left a note for anyone who might have come while we were out.
Dennis McL had arrived from Courtenay while we were away and had
patiently waited until about 10 minutes before we got home , before
he left. He returned about an hour later, and we helped him set up
his tent, and then Mike Hart, and Deano arrived from USA.

Johnny Yukon was not with them since he had only got 15 miles from
home with his load on and had the worst case of "Tank slap" and had
to turn back. Eric P. had been turned back at canadian customs, why
we don't know, and Have not seen or heard from him. Mike, Ken, Sheila,
Dennis, and I went to a beautiful local English pub in the country side
and had dinner and a nice ride back through the countryside after
Courtenay and Phil had met us at the pub.

    {I think it was this one}

The number of xs11s in my mirrors is growing daily and it is a great
sight. We all came back to the house for some liquids and chat, and
Tom Varga and Johnny Yukon were there on the lawn waiting for us
having a beer. Johnny had gone to a repair shop in Seattle and in
the space of half an hour they had tightened his steering head bearings
and adjusted his rearshocks to what they needed to be and he was away,
total cost to him FIVE BUCKS!

Tom had tried every door on my house except the basement and therefore
could not reach the beer fridge and had to buy some. Doug Heinen,
who was conspicuous by his absence, phoned to say he would be in
Victoria by 10:00 Thurs (tomorrow), so after much chatter and beer,
we deciided we would have a late start, b-fast in Duncan after Phil
and Court got here, and slide down to Victoria to meet him and then
head out to Pt Renfrew along the West side of Van Is.There were great
tales and talk and finally everybody turned in around midnight.

    {Sid Expounds late at night, that's Andy 'under his wing'}

With Doug , Mike, Johnny, Ken, Sheila, Dennis, Tom, Deano, Court,
Phil, and myself, the xs11s will be a highway "presence", and a pack.
    Stayed tuned for further installments
    Sid

On day two we had been informed by Doug H. that he would be on the early
ferry from PA, (which meant he had to leave home in Federal way @ 4;00AM,
INCREDIBLE AND SOLO). We all had a good b-fast and gassed up in Duncan. We
rode over the Malahat and when we got to the site where I told Doug to meet
us on the major Highway, I pulled ahead and took the pack lead over from
Capt. Hook. We made a turn around through the shopping centre, (read heads
swivel left!), and pulled up onto the shoulder of the highway with not too
much room to spare!! I don't think Sheila ever felt more nervous with her
bike at the rear of the pack and major traffic going past!!!

Incredibly, within 10 minutes Doug showed up, I was amazed at the connection!!
We all headed to Sooke and got gas and were able to hold the pack together
    through the city traffic!!

After leaving Sooke, I thought we could go to the "unfinished castle",
but decided not to. The road up to Jordan River was eay and we stopped
to have a loo at the ocean and Washington's Olympic Penninsula beyond,
gorgeous! We had pulled into a rocky loose sand site and parked the bikes,
and when we left, Doug H. went up the bank to solid ground abd a three foot
drop off to the ocean, and used th downgrade to the road as a ramp, and got
through. I had to grab Johnny Yukon's grab rail and pull him out backwards
and then became stuck myself. While I was getting out I looked over to where
Tom V. was and he was lying on his side with the xs on top of him!! A guy
from an Rv was there and we were soon helping Tom up, no injuries or bike damage,
    just ego, ;^)

    {Tom's bike upright, but that's where it fell}

    {Deano also had 'a moment' on this ride...}

The next section was the "test" of how fast or good you could ride,
with downhill tight corners and reverse twisties up. I almost "bought"
an older model GMC camper van that was having trouble making a corner,
and I was into corner too aggesively!!

The short bursts of acceleration on the short Straights were awesome and
that wonderful xs gearbox with it's ratios, really let the motor "sing"!!
We got to the end of the road at Pt Renfrew, and I commented to Denny Z.,
that I should get a decal and stick it to my right hand mirror, since he
was always there! We had a lunch and then went over to the Huge beach at
Sombrio bay and met a friend of mine who was camped there. The group was
awed by the scenery!! WE headed back for the road out, and mostly rode
"conservatively", but Johnny Yukon's beautiful xs special was crapping out.

We tried many fixes, but finally I did a fuel tank "blow job", and when he
cranked it, KAAAABBBBOOOOOM, came out of the tailpipe and all behind the
bike had soiled underware!! After a few more glitches, I put John's bike on
prime and we made it back to Sooke to gas up. The rest of the trip home
was uneventful until we got within twenty kms of home. At this point I
"sandbagged" Mike H's Suzuki Bandit, and Dean K and I raced away from the
traffic light never to look back, and both going into speed wobbles around
a highway curve at 110mph plus. Great fun!! We arrived home and Doug H.
was the maestro at the BBQ. Burgers, beer, and greatalk and hottubs were
the order of the rest of the night while I showed the group how to pick out
star constellations and "shooters" from the Perseid star shower. At this
point Mike H, informed me that Johnny Yukon, only had perhaps three hundred
miles of riding experience, TOTAL! I was astounded!! He had made it solo
from Seattle, navigated the ferry and highway systems to here, rode at a
hard pace to Renfrew and back with a "sour" bike, and hadn't said a word!!
That is the true essence of what an xs11 rider is!! Awesome Johnny!!
Tomorrow is the ride to Mt. Washington. More to come.

We left for the mt. Washinton ride with about 11 riders. Is was an easy
run up the Parkway to Courtenay, where we had b-fast, gassed up and Dennis
Mc led the way out of town to the Mt. Washinton road. The road to the
chair lift base is a beautiful piece of twisties. We parked the bikes

and took a chair lift ride up to the summit, where the view was the most
incredible vista that I have ever seen in my twenty plus years on the
Island!! Deano was having a greta time getting the Whisky Jacks to fly up
to his hand and feed. We stayed at the 5200ft level for about thirty
minutes, then headed down to the parking lot.

Earlier as we were debating whether or not to go, a cyclonic wind came out
of nowhere and picked up tables and umbrellas and hats and everything else
and lifted it approx 100 feet into the air, then dropped it. It was pretty
amazing! We got on the bikes and rode down to the bottom with Dennis in lead,
and out to the Parkway back to home. Dennis kept a good lead at approx 120kmh,
and we all stayed together. We pulled off into Qualicum to get gas, and had
to pass through the new section of road with all the flowers and nice lawns,
remarked upon by quite a few. After gassing up we headed back to the
Parkway and kept a good pack at speed all the way to home. When we got
to my house, Del and Denny Zander were there. They had arrived about two PM
and decided to have a nap. I started the BBQ up and we ate and drank
hartily. I told everyone that we would have to be on the road at 6 AM the
next day for the ride to Tofino and Long Beach.

    BI2K part 2

    TofinoRide:
Mike was up and put the coffee on and I went around and made sure that
everyone was up. Jason R. and Andy had not shown, but "xsive Rob" from
Montana was on his way through from Alaska and stopped for the night. At
about 5:45, we fired all of the machines, including Horst's wing. Phil M.
was there, but Capt Hook could not make it.

It was quite a sound to hear all of those bikes warming up (13), and while
Rob and Ken Talbot and Sheila snapped photos, we left for the ride. T
he sun had just come up and it was still chilly. We stopped for gas and
went to the trafficlight. We turned and got on it hard, awesome. Rob
told me later the noise could be heard back at my house where he was
listening and getting ready to ride to home to avoid the border hassles on
our holiday Monday..We held 110 to 120kmh all the way to the Coombs cutoff,
and then eased off briefly on the old highway. It was very pretty through
the Cathederal Park giant trees section, and when we hit the uphill passing
lane we all got moving again, only to get stuck behind a semi, who could only
do 40kmh. We were patient, and finally right in town, managed to go by him.

There was nothing open for b-fast so turned left and went down to the old town
centre to Smittys. We parked our bikes and went into the special dining lounge area.
While the waitress told of the special we all talked and Eagle-eyed Denny Zander
said he saw an xs Standard go by! I went to check thinking it was a local
who might be interested in the bikes. It was Jason R on GREY GHOST, and
Andy on his Harley. They had reached my house at 2;30 the night before and
not wanting to wake people up, had got a motel in Duncan. They had arrived
thirty minutes after we left, and had made up that thirty minutes and found
the restaurant, INCREDIBLE. After b-fast we topped up since there were no
services out to the coast, and headed out. We rode briskly along Sproat
lake, and after Johnson's crossing, were stuck behind the slowest rental RV
on earth. There were two cars in front of us who were becomming impatient,
and some behind the pack. At the first "you must pullover " sign the RV
did and we were motoring through some of the most incredible twisties. The
two cars pulled off at the next one and we were free. It turned into a
great game, with ups, downs, twisties, bridges, straights, etc. Either Del
or Denny or Deano or Mike were always there and I would try to pull away
from them on the straight only to see them in my mirrors at the corners.
We rode flat out like that, balls to the walls, until I broke away about
ten km from the junction and waited. What a sweet noise as they all came
thundering through the valley to the junction. It was high fives and
smiles from ear to ear for everyone. We talked for a little while then
headed for long Beach. It had been overcast since Pt Alberni, and now the
windshields starrted to become covered in low cloud off of the ocean waves.

We took a walk in the surf at Long Beach,

    {Mike, Andy, Jason, Dennis, Tom, Horst behind Deano, Del, ?, Denny}

then headed to Tofino, where we had an hour to look around and meet back.

    {Tofino/Ucluelet Junction}

Some toured the Ray vickers native art studio, and others did a walkabout.

    {on the walkabout}

    {Andy and Jason, but you knew that}

I found Tom Varga and said lets go for a pint. We did and met the others
who were ready to go. Jason R., had done all of us a good turn, and for
it we received a brand new Vickers print of a motorcycle with his Native
artbehind, which we decide to use as the BI2K emblem.

    {Museum gal who gave us card prints}

    {don't ask}

    More to come.
    Sid
PS any one take a pix of the BI2K "buttons"??

{Sid, of course! Mine is in a place of honor on top the
Stanley Cup replicas you also passed out... wait, no,
    you never pass out... oh never mind, you know what I mean}

{Canadian beer cap pins! Cool. and was it Courtney
    gave us all little Canadian Flag pins?}

We headed out of Tofino and I gave instructions, to everyone to take it easy
going back. I guess I should have listened to my own words! The road was
dry and conditions were perfect, so I tried a few bursts to see who would
stay up. They all did! There were a few vehicles coming out our way, but
a ton more going in! We blasted along next to Kennedy lake, and were
stopped suddenly by a guy in a dodge caravan, who stopped on the road to
see a three hundred pound black bear on the opposite shoulder, just walking
around! Peeled around him and started up the pass, where it is straight
down to the lake, (three hundred feet), on one side, and your right side of
the bike is five feet away from the overhanging rock wall. Great echo
effect for the xs 11's with four into ones! The rest of the trip back to
Sproat lake was just like going out, YAHHOOO! I had promised Dean K, that
we would see the huge Martin Mars waterbomber at sproat lake, and we pulled
off at the exit and waited for the others. Horst came whistling past Tom V
and myself on the shoulder, and we waived him down, but kept going, until
he realized who we were and what we were doing. He and the others joined
the group and we went to the DUCK INN, to have a look at the Mars and have
a cold one on their deck.

Back on the road, and I am getting antsy, since I have to get salmon BBQ,
etc going, so I am setting a fast pace. After awhile I am alone but close
to home, and I know Dennis knows thw way and he is with the main pack.
I take a short cut through town, and it is under construction, so Doug H.
who is on my tail, gets a tour of ladysmith alleys. Den and Del stuck to
the main road and we saw them two blocks below us on highway. We get home
and I start to race around when my daughter and wife tell me everything
is ready to go, WOW! I take a cooler of cold ones out to the bikes and
    can't see Del or Den.

Pretty soon everyone is there except them. I get in the car since I am
changed into shorts, and go look for them. I can't find them. When I
return Denny, comes up the hill by himselfand says his dad's bike crapped
out at the gas station at the bottom of the hill. He need a rope to pull!
I offer him same and off he goes.

I busy myself with other things and then I see Del. While Denny was towing
him, the last hill to my house caused some problems and Del went down on
the bike. I ask if he wants to go to emergency to check it out but he says
he dislocated it last year while skiing and it is just strained. The bike
windshield is smashed and there is not much else done. We push it around
back to the slab and Del begind to work on it, while Denny glues the
windshield back with 5 min epoxy.

Doug H, "MR. BBQ", has taken over the fish duties and the shrimp kabob
cooking, and it is comming together without me, great! We have a delicious
dinner of Atlantic salmon steaks and much other stuff and I had phoned my
wife from Sproat lake to please buy more beer, which she did, bless her heart!
The night is great, and Jason, Andy, and I are ion the hottub with Dennis til
midnite. Del, Denny, Doug H, Dean K. leave at 4 AM to make ferry at PA. Others
peel off in the AM with Mike and Johnny the last to go on Sunday.
It was for me a great episode of planning and meeting and riding, my whole
    vacation as I see it!

      Dennis reports on BI2K

      Hello all,

I also just arrived home this afternoon from the Big Island Tour
2000, and am totally exhausted!!! Congratulations to Sid and Mary, our
wonderful hosts, who did an excellent job, works connot describe. You guys
are the tops!!! Thank you again for a great weekend!!!

I arrived Friday, got helped unloading and set up the tent and bed,
and then mingled a bit before going out to dinner with those already in
attendance, and had a leisurely drive out and back, except for 1 big dip in
the road that jarred my backpad off the backrest, hitting me in the back in
mid-ride, which I was able to grab and hold on to until we got to the
restaurant. (Kind wondered what that was hitting me, as I knew I never had
a passenger! Returned home along the water, a beautiful ride, and settled
down to drinks and socializing with the faces, finally getting to see and
hear who is who after all the messages on the list...

1st big ride was to Port Renfrew, on the West Coast of the Island,
and I already knew what we were in for, having camped there last summer on
the XS. The first 1/2 of the journey was awesome, (Got that one from Jason)
but the last 1/2 was a bit bumpy with dips abounding, tons of twisties the
whole way, and rode a bit harder then I usually do, but in control all the
way. The lead group broke away from the few near the end, as it seemed the
whole weekend that some just have more "Need for Speed!!!", I not being one
of them, but that was just great too, for everyone got to ride in the big
group as well as with others that were not as skilled on such a powerful
bike. Alone the way unfortunately, Deano caught a bump in the road and his
camera was ejected from under the cargo net where it was being housed.
Incredibly as it was, it landed in the opposite land and was picked up by
Doug I do believe, and was still intact, along with "SEVERE" roadrash to the
case it was in. Just goes to show what a good set of leathers can do for you
or a camera!!! Had lunch, took a ride out to the other side of the bay,
took a few pics, and got back for the ride home. All arrived safely, but
Johnny Yukon did have carb problems that Sid was able to get straightened
out enough to get him home with the rest of us. Just watching Sid was a
learning experience and a half, for he does know his stuff with these bike,
and I am sure everyone was thankful to have him in attendance. I know I
felt a lot better knowing his skills were not far off, just in case a
problem did occur. Went out for a great steak dinner, and what a deal that
was too, an 8 oz sirloin and all the fixings for $9.99, and get one free as
well, made for a delicious, inexpensive meal. Had a ton of laughs back at
the house as everyone unwound and kicked back, cooling off with a cold
beverage, followed by satellite and shooting stars across the heavenlies, it
      was a site!!!

Up early for day 2, a ride north to my home town of Courtenay, and
up Mt. Washington, the local ski hill. We travelled in one group the whole
way up and back, 10-11 bikes in all, and what a site we were, one I will not
forget for a long time. We travelled the new Island Highway, stopping for
breaky in Courtenay, and then I was given the opportunity to take lead to
Mt. Washington, after refueling. I learned a whole new perspective having
a group like that behind, and want to thank Sid for the pleasure. The ride
up the mountain was all twisties, sweeping back and forth as we ascended the
hill to the top. All but two rode the chairlift to the summit from the day
lodge, and took in the view of what seemed like being on top of the world.
The ride down was the same, just a blast, and I took lead again at the
bottom of the hill, and proceeded towards home (Sid's not mine!). Just a
great thrill to lead the pack, and returned on the new highway to go home,
where we were treated to burgers and beverages, to end off a great day, as
well as a dip into the HOT TUB, which was plenty hot too!! Laughter filled
the air well into the night. We also had new arrivals too, Rob from Montana,
and Horst from Victoria, and Denny and Del Zander from Washington State.
Unfortunately, Bob only stayed overnight, and departed the next day for the
trip home, but it was a total surprise he even showed up, but we were sure
glad you did Rob, great meeting you!!! More laughter was heard when Sid
discovered one of his dogs had taken up residence inside Del's tent, until
he got caught, but not before a picture was snapped off.

The ride for day 3 was a big one, up north th Parksville, and then
West inland to the other side of the Island to Long Beach/Tofino. Up at 5
am, and on the road by 6, Yawwwwnnn, I thought I was on days off!!! It was
worth the early morning wake up. We had I believe 11-12 bikes in total, and
looked like a long snake as we rode staggered through the pass at Mt
Arrowsmith towards Port Alberni. Unfortunately, Ken and Sheila Talbot had
other commitments to go to, and were missed on this final days ride.
Terrific bike roads laid ahead, just twists and turns all the way, once we
got off the main Island highway. Stopped in Port Alberni for breakfast, and
just after ordering, 2 more bikes pulled up to the restaurant. Well, to
everyone's surprise and delight, it was Jason and his friend Andy, making
the group even bigger. We headed out for the other side of the island, and
the lead group broke away about 1/2 way there, and we all arrived at the
Tofino junction within 10 minutes or so. Everyone's shocks and tires were
put to the test along the way too, making for a challenging ride for all.
The smiles at the meeting point told the story!!! We went for a visit to
the Wichinninish Inn, an information center, and then a stop at the beach to
observe the breakers and beautiful scenery, even with the fog and overhead
clouds. Tofino awaited, where we went for a 1 hour break before heading
back out for the cruise home. The sun broke out just after we got inland
from the coast, and it got hot again, as were the previous 2 days rides.
Along the way, Jason and Andy went by the opposite direction to get a
picture of a black bear along the river, which I missed. We met for a
refreshment stop at Sprout Lake, home of the Mars water bomber planes, used
for dousing forest fires. We departed to refuel in Port Alberni, and then
split into two groups, and the slower made a pit stop into Canadian Tire for
polish for the bikes, and then headed out for home. The journey home was a
leisurely one for the slower group, but I must say, by now my butt was a bit
sore, and I was in no hurry, just wanted to make it back in one piece. We
arrived back around 6 p.m., and all were hot and tired, but very happy with
all the days rides and company. A delicious salmon steak dinner with shrimp
kabobs was enjoyed by all, and the beer fridge and cooler were both well
stocked. We laughed hysterically, and reminisced about the meets events
over the three days, and had a great evening.

People began to depart early Sunday morning, and I do hope all made
it to their destinations safely with no problems. I thoroughly enjoyed
meeting everyone who attended, and will remember this meet for years to
come. I will hopefully be attending the meet in September at Denny's, as
long as I have a pulse!! Would not want to miss one of these for anything,

        Deano reports

{you wouldn't guess from this... but 2001 finds Deano
        hosting PNW2001... stay tuned to this channel}

        Hi all,
Arrived safely home in Portland just after 1 PM. No problems! Shadowed
Del Zander until central city with no misbehaving from his bike, then pealed
        off and headed for home.

As for the B.I.2K....WOW! What an experience. As one of those who had
never met any of the other XSives face to face, it was a real treat. The
formation "ground flying" and balls out road taming were incredible, without
even mentioning the spectacular scenery of beautiful Vancouver Island. To
learn what was "normal" and what wasn't, to fully appreciate the stump
pulling torque of this powerplant and to savor a fine Canadian brew when it
was all over for the day...That's living life in the "XS"!

My hat is off to Sid and Mary for their obvious hard work and
hospitality. To Phil, Courtney, Tom, Horst and Dennis for their
comaraderie, explanations of the local scene and translations of the Red
Green show. To Mike, Johnny, Ken, Sheila, Doug, Denny, Del, Jason, Andy and
the ALCAN "road king" for making it all a blast.
        Let's do it again, eh?

Mike has a comment or two...

Hey Sid, that was me in your mirror and up your tailpipe at Port Renfrew!!!
On the way out anyway. On the way in, no doubt it was Denny drafting you.

Now on the Tofino ride, that was Denny and Del and Jason (and Doug and Deano
and?), and a different story, wow you guys are fast and more than a little
crazy (he said admiringly). For a while I'd catch up the lead pack quick on
the straightaways, which was great fun, but 2/3 the way there I decided to
have a look and see if there might be some scenery. Experience + Nads =
Lead Pack. Two fighter pilots up there too.

You sandbagger, I got you the next two times ;>)

Y'all should see Sid's taillight in the twisties (yeah, you wish!!) Sid is
a great example of why Nascar doesn't have taillights. Evil bastard! ;>)

            Jason chimes in...

Well where does one start. I think the fun factor was illegal.

I cant thank Sid and Mary enough Thank You again. It was so
nice to put faces to e-mails and so amazing how so many
different people can click together so well. Glad to see everyone
made it home safely. Andy and I both made it home without a
hitch and still can't stop talking about how great the people and
rides were. Thanks to everyone who made it for letting me be
apart of a fantastic time. I can't wait till Sept. to see you all
again. Hey Mike I started my Bandit fund. Oh and Sid
remember its 6 to 2 and your 4 down, keep looking up. To be
resumed in Sept. :>) :>) :>) Jason Raley

              Mike has his say...

What can I add to what Dennis, Tom, Deano, SID the SQUID, and others have
already said? Being a blabbermouth, quite a bit:

Some folks I met for the first time - Ken and Sheila, Horst, Dennis, Rob,
Andy, Deano, Eric - each their own unique XSively enjoyable self with a
              unique beatiful bike.

K&S, competent, quietly joyful, solid, level-headed.

Horst - enigmatically happy, can push a Wingabago thru the
twisties like it weighs 200 lbs less than it does, interested in everything.

Dennis is a man of many skills, enthusiasm, and energy, and he
apparently knows how to polish aluminum!!

Rob - we only saw you for a couple hours, but you are one
unique character, and win hands-down the packing-for-touring
competition. I hope we get to see more of you.

Andy - quiet streams? Dared to bring a Harley? And though it
had only 4 gears, ran in the lead pack? This likable guy will need
to be seen again to further appreciate.

Deano - brevity, incisiveness, decisiveness, XJadedness,
rides that XJ like an F18 (which he also can ride).

Eric, we haven't heard from you. I hope it was merely a prior
from your mis-(well-)spent youth that got you turned
back, and I hope we see you again.

I really enjoyed meeting all of you and want to ride and eat and party with you again.

The rest of you rotten bastards I've met before and you can't pay me to say
anything nice about you! Yes, that's you BC gang - Sid, Tom, Courtney,
Phil; and you yanks - Doug, Denny, Del, Jason, Johnny - they drive too
fast, laugh too much, have too much fun, avoid them if you can.

Eighteen in all; though never all at once, too bad. I think 14 was the most
              on one ride.

Thank you all for making one of the most memorable 'weekends' ever.

Very special thanks to Sid and Mary for their thoughtful preparations,
patience, hospitality, and effort. It was a lot of work, and work well
              done.

For future hosts to consider: Sid had every meal and every ride planned,
and yet was flexible as well; the meals out were terrific - affordable,
huge portions, and most involved a good ride and good ambience to boot; the
two bbq's at Sid's - the right adjective is hard to find - splayfooted?
nah um well, oneiric? nah okay how about unbelievable? You would have
had to be there to believe it. (Doug "BBQ" Heinen was at the controls of
the grill...) The rides: A W E S O M E!!! Sid, you devil, how the hell is
anybody gonna top that? Now, I can't credit Sid for the weather, but it was
as perfect as last year's ride to Rainier - nary a cloud, warm, not hot, you
              couldn't ask for better luck.

Okay, okay, I'll say something nice about Sid - Oh Fearless Leader, Oh
Consumer of Mass Quantities, Oh Deceptive Sandbagging Brakelighting One, you
              are a Peerless Host.

And Mary - if she didn't know how to quietly laugh and light up her face at
Sid's foibles and peculiarities, well... And in spite of working some odd
12 hour shifts at her job, she was there when she could be, and put in a lot
of effort to make it all easy for everyone.

PS A couple of decoder rings for Sid's reports:

re Tom spilling his bike at the beach - Sid runs over "Your mirror is bent!"
and runs to grab tools. Tom watches the guy from the camper pick the bike
up off him and say to Sid "Don't you think you should ask if he's okay?".
Well now, Sid knows Tom is tough as nails, so he has his priorities
              straight, don't you think?

One of Sid's mottos could well be: "Go a little further, it'll get better".
This applies to snow, throttle, beer, seafood, hosting XS rallies, whatever.

and Johnny (he's come a LONG way since)

My first solo ride was up the slab of I-5 from Seattle to Anacortes
to catch the ferry through the San Juans Islands to Sidney on
Vancouver Is. I had to get on it cause I had no spare time to
catch the boat. All I thought about was Mike explaining counter
steering to me to get through the corners easily. Honestly I was
scared. After a little time on the slab I got a smidgen of
confidence and actually got up to 85. Hey that counter steering works!!

I got to Sid's proud as a peacock to meet Tom, who also
wondered where everyone else was. Tom, the very polite
gentleman, offered to get a few Canadian beers as we both
were quite thirsty. After awhile a thunderous ovation of sound
could be heard approaching. The motley crew arrived, big smiles
on everyones faces as they removed their helmets. Introductions
were in order and what a pleasure to meet every one there.

Could hardly sleep that first night cause of late partying and the
ride to come the next morning. I had reason to worry cause this
group only had one thing on their minds and that was RIDE
BABY!! RIDE!! The slab down to Victoria to meet Doug and on to
Sooke was straight forward, but then, Oh my God, I was warned
that this ride out to Pt. Renfrew was a bit sticky if you will!!!! The
group stayed together until the big downhill sweeper that took
me across the center line and almost to the edge of the
pavement!!! Thank God there were no cars over there!! So much
for staying with the big boys!! Humiliation means your still alive.

Not only were there intense twisties, but this road needed a little
repair in the bump department. The scenery was awesome, the
valleys, fjords, mountains, it was just incredible. The group had to
endure a few carb problems I had on the return, but will never
forget when Sid blasted the pipes clean with black smoke causing
an environmental impact on the area, and also changing the color
of a few XSives watching from the rear of the bike.

All the rides were great! Mt Washington was spectacular, and
Tofino was as well. Following Dennis with his sheepskin seat,
Deano with his F-18 look, spread eagle feet and arms, Tom with
his harley hat, Mike with his speed machine, Ken with his cool
running lights, Sheila who was sandbagging, she's a great rider,
Doug, Del, Denny, the three D's, well I just couldn't catch them.
Andy and Jason, the lady killers, Horst the telecom master on the
island, Courtney Mr. enthusiasm, Rob the master packer, Phil the
courteous gentleman and finally our host Sid. He is Mr. XSive.......

What a great group and a great time. I am so lucky to have participated.
