  • Short test ride turns into an overnight adventure...

So just after completing my bike yesterday I decided to take her for a short test ride...I live in joshua tree, ca and a short test ride for me is generally about 100 mis round trip, so I decided id ride just down past palm springs and eat dinner at buffalo wild wings...

I do this ridw for most test rides if the bike is running well enough to get there its a good place to celebrate success...

So I start riding I stop to get gas about 15 mis away to make sure all bolts, nuts, and screws are still tight... I then continue on stopping 20 min. Later to check tire pressure just in case dure to a short twisty down hill...i then continue on...just down the other side I take a detour to avoid a high winds area...this detour is of course also windy, but not quite as bad...i get to the highway and the winds are heavy but not too bad, so I continue on...i get to buffalo's just about 830 pm...all is beautiful, warm and I sit outside to enjoy the evening and celebrate with some, half@$$ed ny style wings...keep in mind im from ny so I know the difference...i encourage everyone try this place though cause ita the closeat thing ur gooing to get in CA...A+ for effort...B- for accomplishment... I eat my wings and I go back out to my bike about 1030... I get out to my bike to find I parked too close to the grass and have sprinkler juice overspray on my bike...i call it juice because its non-potible and generaly recycled from waste water straight from toilette I think...it smells that way anyway... So I dry my bike as best I can and start out for home...i get up on the highway and about 3 milea down the road tje wind has gotten extremely windy... I ride another 3 miles or so and I can barely keep my bike in the lane... I try to move left in the lane because im almost on the white line, I lean hrd left and to no avail cannot get my bike to go left...i lean harder hard enough to scrape pegs and I finally start to move left...deciding this is too dangerous, I get off at the next exit...barely keeping the bike on the road I successfully pull in to a chevron/jack in the box...i decide to wait out tje wind for awhile... At midnight I call it quits and sleep next to my bike behind the gas station...i get up around 6am get breakfast at J in theB and a coffee at gas station...and here I sit posting my ride report...so if your in socal today, watch out for the wind... if u end up at the same gas station im gonna have my truck delivered to me to take my bike home around 430 if I cant leave before then...if u are around here and also need a tow I can have my trailer brought down here too and give u a ride too...16 foot trailer so I can fit about five bikes comfortably...im at Palm exit off I10 near palm springs heading west...

Wow! That's some crazy wind! Glad you landed safely. Can't say I'd be comfortable sleeping out behind a gas station, but I guess it works in a pinch.

thanx guys! bug, can't say i was comfy...layin on concrete, using my helmet for a pillow... good story for the grandkids some day though... and for safety, i didn't have my knife like i would on a normal overnight ride, but I Am a Marine after all, so i should be able to fend myself against the crazies...unless its one huge methhead...lol, just kidding even if he wasnt, he wouldnt feel a whole lot which would put me a little disadvantaged, but at least i could out think the guy if need be...
