Hey all, If anyone is planning a road trip that brings you to or through the Albuquerque, New Mexico area, feel free to contact me and I would be happy to provide a place to sleep and a meal or two. One of my sons moved out and down the street so I have an empty bedroom (my son has one in his house too) so don't pay those high hotel costs just for a shower and a place to sleep. We love visiting with folks and I'm a decent enough cook. We also could point you in the right direction for "must see" sights in New Mexico and if you want to try your hand at cowboy shooting we are the founding members of our local SASS club. You would be welcome any time.

Thanks DGXSer, Wiser now. the missing "action" makes all the difference.
Looks like a lot of fun. As i have not been on a horse in decades and could not hit a barn door at 10 paces (with a rifle) when i was young and could see.
Probably not for me.

Sorry about leaving off the "action" part of cowboy action shooting. I work the local gun shows promoting both our range and the SASS sport and I too often assume (wrongly) that everyone must know about "cowboy shooting" by now. I left you a message about the sport so that I wouldn't bore everyone else. But I will say that we don't ride horses while shooting. That is an entirely different sport called "Mounted Shooting" and they shoot blanks at balloons not live ammo at steel targets.

Typically, I just came back from around there. I was on the Ural tho, it might not count as riding.I've been in more than one Hemisphere, and I wrote a book to help you do it too (or just prepare better for that week long road trip). Going Small, not just for the little guys.

May have to plan for SWMBO and I to stop by in Albuquerque on our way to the Durango Rally - prob stop on June 30th and continue to CO the morning of 1st.
Are you planning to attend? We are trailering there (I would be divorced if I suggested she ride that far on the back of a bike!) and maybe heading to San Diego after the rally to pick up The Rising Sun and bring it home for some maintenance and upgrades. The truck is a much more comfy cross country vehicle

John, I didn't know there is a rally in Durango in July. I can't find anything when I search for upcoming events. Tell me more as Durango is only 5 or 6 hours away and a beautiful ride up there as northern NM is some of our prettiest scenery.

Hi Gale
(Welcome to the site, by the way)
Here's a link for the Colorado rally:
Colorado rally
That's an awesome offer you've made!
I'm hoping when our kids aren't requiring most of our time (does that ever happen?) we can make a ride out that way.
It really is lovely there.81 SH Something Special

Golly, how did I miss that info! After reading the proposed riding plans I have determined that you all are way more experienced and must have iron butts...236 miles round trip in one day with time for lunch and to stop and site see? I haven't done any long trips as yet and just getting up there would probably require a day of recovery for me, after all I'm old, out of shape, and not all that motivated. I thought rallies were for sitting around shoot'n the breeze (or bull**** as the case may be), looking at all the cool stuff in venders' tents, and downing coffee or beer???? Heck, I would love to meet you all but I gotta have the strength to ride home and you people will exhaust me. Is there an option for hanging around in camp in my reclining camp chair and welcoming you guys back after your long rides? If so, then count me in. I can get there and back home but it's all the in between that intimidates and worries me.

Don't worry
I know I won't be allowed to go on all the riding - SWMBO might let me go off for one long ride alone though just to test my mettle
You could take the easy way out and trailer up with us - I will have one slot open on the trailer though I cannot guarantee today we will go back through ABQ so you may have to ride back!
We are thinking of stretching it west to CA after CO for the rest of the week.
I was intimidated also by the ride plans as most of mine are 1 tank of gas rides even here in Texas...
But I just want to meet all these crazy characters I see on the forum every day so it will be worth it.
You can DO it!
