  • A favorite day trip.

One of my favorite day trips is in Southern California. While living in L.A. I took the 101 west to Ventura. Then the 33 north up thru Ojai. From there I took a nice, two lane road thru the Condor refuge back out to Frasier Park and the 5 freeway. I had a great burger at a small cafe there before riding back south again to L.A.. One note; On the two ane road from Ojai..be wary of several "water crossings". One was not marked on a blind turn and I ended up laying the bike down.

When I was a kid, we would go out through Ojai every year for Mothers' Day and have a KFC lunch at Sespe Creek. There's a natural spring at one of the bends in the road, and it creates a waterfall and a stream that runs under the road. We would always stop and enjoy the "natural spring water" there. Frasier park is where we would "drive to the snow" in winter. I have never been on a bike along those roads, but there are lots of rockslides along there, so it could be tricky!

Do you mean Lockwood Valley Road from the 33?

        Lockwood Valley rd

It has been many years. It may have been Lockwood Valley. It seems to me I saw a sign saying something about "wagon road". However..looking at the map..I guess Lockwood was the only logical road.
