I ride mainly at night 5 days a week.... I see them almost everyday. My deer whistle makes them run the other way it's silver about 2" long and says kerker on the side....

Well said. I've had the same experience. But as I noted earlier, we have problems with turtle doves, meadowlarks, turkey buzzards, and turkeys as well as deer. I've had much more positive experiences than negative using these. They do not seem to help with the insect population.
The whistles do not substitute for alertness. Birds are big enough to hurt as well as potential for fatal results. I am cautious around any pets, wildlife, other traffic, etc. I assume they don't see me or will attempt to accomplish their life long dream of becoming a speed bump.

I do have a pair of the costlier whistles on my 18 wheeler (one is now missing). Above 35 MPH I can hear the whistle if my window is open. I use it to annoy people in convertables that drive next to me
