  • My High-side Tank Slapping Adventure

I wrote a "laugh and learn" article about my recent crash. Back when I had my XS1100 I managed to crash it into other vehicles, a fence, and just flat laid her down on a wet curve once. Walked away every time, often bleeding, but nothing serious.

This time I ended up in a helicopter ride to a trauma center. Here's the whole story...you'll laugh, but you'll also see how important it is to wear the right gear when you're riding:

Hmmm....well....perhaps with all the things you described happening to you before this event of not paying attention, a motorcycle may not be a good choice of transportation for you!

Other than infuries to your head, the clothing and boots do absolutely nothing to keep you form breaking bones or mashing extremeties. They will keep the road rash to a minimum, but they do not protect bones except from being ground off.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

      Timothy,

I know how the traffic in D/FW is. It can come to a complete STOP for absolutely no apparent reason.

I totaled my CX500 Honda twice there, once almost exactly like you described exept I was tooling down Lake Worth Blvd.

I'm glad your alright and I hope your scoot is too.

I found your story quite entertaining and I will share it. Thank you.

Welcome to XS11.com. Do you have an XS also?

Very close call. Glad you are on the mend. Good luck with your bike. Almost forgot...Welcome to the forum.

I couldn't help but think about the post someone put up (I think it was CrazySteve) about Helmet testing and Crash Survivability based on the riders age. Moral of the story was-- You don't bounce so good the older you get.

When I was living in D/FW, I avoided the freeways like the plague and feel fortunate to have managed not to get smashed.
They go from 90 to nothing at the most inconvenient times!

I could get stopped ok, but always worried about getting eat up by whomever was following me. You have to have an escape route for that kind of battle.

The worst, I think, was the 121 over by John & Kat's, and the 35.
