    Geez David!
Next time... wait until you're driving your Dad's vehicle before you hit any large birds... he's accustomed to it...
We don't call him the Stinky Butt Buzzard Buster for nothing...
okay... maybe it's just me that calls him that...

Glad you're okay... windshields can be replaced a lot more easily than body parts...

    Ivan... that was funny

Funny you should say that. There is a MMO that I play called "Fallen Earth" which is based post apocalypse and in the southwest US.

I really hate suicidal owls. Makes me want to wring their neck, not that it would do any good. (get it?)

XJOK2PLAY thanks for all the kind words yea he is pretty great dad. we have been able to do a lot together. We had our bad times but those I think are long gone and I plan on doing a lot more with him.
I actually have a funny story to tell about my dad and his motorcycle stuff.
When i first got me jeep.
It is a jeep cherokee. Which it is also called and XJ. So after I had my jeep a while I remembered it is also called the xj and wanted to tell dad. So here I was all proud to tell my dad hey look we both have xj's now. I was expecting a sweet son thats cool now you just need one with 2 wheels. Ya know something like that. No I got Ahhh dang it. Why did they have to name it that now It is going to be harder to find parts on ebay. I was like ahhh umm not really the answere i was going with but ok....

Nothing bad I just thought it was funny.
So Dad and I both had bad experiences yesterday, and we both are just fine. I guess like father like son huh? I had an owl commit suicide into my windshield last night. It needs replaced. I have pics, but not sure if anybody wants them on here. So..... I hope dad didnt do anything bad today because for the time being I am driving his ride around for now

    Tod,
Glad to hear your trip so far has turned into, as Bohn says, "An adventure."

Gotta say... as I was reading the bit about the kickstand... my heart was in my mouth there for a second! Flashbacks of a gravel parking lot...

Wild, looking at your pics of Carlsbad Caverns... I was about 13 the last time I was there... still looks the same! Do they still have the underground restraunt at midway? I remember how cold it was getting at that point!

Great pics... narration's pretty cool, as usual, too!

Hate I wasn't able to go with ya on this one... I can see I'm really missing out.

    Maybe the next one...

What's this about having a 21 y.o. son??? Known you for a year now, and I'm just hearing this? Geesh... ya think you know some guys...

David, glad to make your acquaintance here... in spite of your Dad's 'rudeness' by not introducing us... I'll have to forgive him... he's like that sometimes... can't take him anywhere, I tell ya... LOL
I'll look forward to many future rides w/ ya!

As you've probably figured out by now... Your dad dishes out a lot of grief to his buddies here, and we just love to shovel it right back...
But... I don't know of anyone else that I'm as proud to call a friend than your dad! He's been a tremendous blessing to me, and I owe him A LOT!!!
You've got a great Dad, there David... but I'm sure ya already know that.
He's kinda one of our favorite guru's here... so I guess we'll have to keep him around for a while... LOL
Glad to hear I may have a new riding buddy soon! He's got enough XJ's and parts... at least maybe SOME that aren't broken or worn out... ya oughta be able to make a good XJ! Nothing else... he knows how to build one!

Now, Tod... before your head begins to swell too big from the gushy stuff I just told your son and your helmet quits fitting... next time take a container of gas... or rig up a setup like Cody had on Zilla... especially when going that direction! He's told me how far those stations can be apart... sounds like ya got pretty lucky... then almost didn't! And take it from me.... troopers know how to write those tickets, too...

Glad to hear you're having fun... and give our best wishes to your mom!!!
Thanks for keeping us updated on your 'adventure!"
And please do us a favor... come home safe, my friend!
    Merry Christmas!
    Bob

Well, if I hadn't run out, I wouldn't have met those nice people. Kinda funny though, it was a decent looking gal and her son I dealt with. When I ran out of gas, I took off my layers of coats, gloves, helmet, etc... to walk up the hill. After I filled up the bike, I threw my coats on loose, had the helmet on the handlebars, and carried the gas can while I rode back up the driveway to return it. Just as I got to the bottom of the driveway, stopped and started putting my clothes back on... her husband pulled in with a very.. ummm.. concerned look on his face. lol. I hope he's a trusting soul. Glad the son was home also..

Heading out. Thanks for the responses.

    Tod

    Cool report and nice pics.

About the gas thing, I have on more than one occasion sweated bullets and found myself in the town with three gas stations just none open cause it is Sunday. Fortunately, I have not ended up begging for gas or pushing the bike.....yet.

I liked how you said we have 4. Sounds like you already have dibs on one. And as for your Mom. It is sometimes easier to ask forgiveness than permission.
Well... I should use we very liberally

Tod, nice pics and write-up. Wish I was there with you.

    4.0XJ,

Yea I have asked dad his opinion on the Suzuki Vstroms, but I suppose it would be easier to just get an xj since we have i think 4.
