  • Maxim Phil to Algonquin again

Having been unable to attend the Vintage Japanese Bike Rally in Georgia I was in need of a long ride. So to day I left Toronto and headed North to revisit Algonquin Park which I had finally made on the bike earlier in July after XS North.
Forecast was for 80 % chance of rain but only 2 mm predicted so how bad could it be. Made it 3 hours into the ride near Norland on HWY35 before it actually rained though the road had been wet for quite a bit before.
No traffic, in fact hardly any cars at all. North of Norland 35 is a very nice road and onto Hwy 60 East through Algonquin Park where the trees have started to turn colour.
Stopped in Whitney for a late lunch. After lunch headed out into heavy rain having had intermittent showers already.
The weatherman had seriuosly misled with prediction of 2mm as I has atleast 4mm in my crotch ( of water that is)
Down hwy 127 to Bancroft and returned to Norland, to complete the loop, before heading back to Toronto.
Later it rained really hard for 40 minutes but eventually cleared.
Just over 400 miles in 11 hours on some of my favorite roads. great scenery.
    Bike ran flawlessly all day

Hi Phil glad to hear you had a good ride... Was this on your 650 Maxim or did you finally get the Venturer running? I just did another 900 mile ride to CT and around...3 days of beautiful autuum weather but the last day coming home was in solid rain...bike doesn't like that..especially without any fairing

      Hi BNE,
Yes the 650 Maxim. Venturer is a longer project than expected but Rick & I plan to have her running for XS EAst.

Gotta get up that way some time Phil. Never really been "inland" in Canada. Need to get that stupid enhanced license or passport though.

Dean I made it to XSNorth it was alot of fun and Ontario was great...beautiful country. Get the passport as its prolly required anyhow...My crossing with the passport was trouble free and took all of 5 mins going and coming...not counting the time waiting on line

              Hi Dean,
Be glad to show you around the "interior" of Ontario. I recommend the full passport, you never know when the lottery comes in and you want to travel the world.

                Hi Randy,
From what I recall western PA and Somerset PA have been mentioned as possible destinations. The group seems reluctant to come to Canada in May and XSEast is the Memorial day week end.
Someone else should have a go as you have done the last two and I would like to go somewhere I have not been before. That about exhausts my knowledge on XSEast 2010.

                  Hi Phil.

That Maxim has been a long ways. My XS skipped and ran poorly in heavy rain on one day of the fall rally in GA Weather cleared and bike ran well the rest of the time. I may need to check to see if wet coils or wires were shorting. It is running good again now. I want to see that BIG tank XS1100 you have got. Good luck wrenching on it.

It is a great big beautiful world out there
