Wow... Thanks a lot, Kat! Now I have this mental image of Russ in a speedo.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys. I got home and went staight to my ex's house to see the kids and then spent some time with a good old friend. I made it back ok, obviously. I probably could have used the speedo suit on monday but tues. was not bad at all. i ended up wearing the pants and not the jacket of my rainsuit. Because you asked bug, i got the coleman camping special at target because it was cheaper than anything i would find at a bike shop. It actually held up fairly well, except it melted a little on the tailpipe. other than that i think it held up really well.

Thanks for the offer (the riding and speedometer part, not the speedo kat was mentioning.) russ i'll probably take you up on it in the very near future, I'll give you a call when i head out that direction.

If any body gets the chance take highway 24 out to moberly, mo. It's a fun ride and you get to see the biggest pecan in the world. Not to mention the various little towns along the way. [/IMG]pg[/IMG]
In Lexington, Mo is the state historical site for the battle of lexington, which is the western most battle of the civil war.
All in all this has been a fun, exciting and adventurous trip for me and i can't wait to do another one.

Glad you made it, sounded like it was a tough trip for a day or so there. Hopefully the bike is behaving itself since you offered your speedo to the XS gods. Very cute kids there. Looks like the boy is ready to ride.

he's almost ready just need a helmet, about two and a half feet taller and maybe a safety class. he was very excited to see the "death machine" that his mother kept referring to.

                    Hey, ZR...

Just got in from work and had to get caught up with all the posts. Glad ya made it, Man! Feels good, don't it? Kids make it worth it al, too.
That's weird how your bike acted up, makes me think it might have gotten something sloshed around in the carbs and got under the needle or something. Glad it cleared up, though! Those are always the best repairs... the one's that fix themselves!
Just wanted to say hey and thank you for the pics and keeping us posted.
                    Keep in touch.
                    Regards,

russ, i don't think it's so much that we're jealous but more or less trying to save our imaginations for something a little less............outgoing? BTW when would be a good time to come and pick up that speedo...meter? It's not so much the guage as the mechanism on the wheel.

things i've learned from my first long solo trip:

                          state highways are fun

apparently in waterloo iowa there is a girl named tina who is a ho(learned from a bathroom wall at a bp gas station.)

                          rain sucks ALOT!!!!!

                          pack lightly

                          rain gear is good

windshields are good, probably, i really haven't experienced them yet.

overall long bike rides are AWESOME!!!!!!!

as i do really appreciate it Bug, i think for right now i'm not gonna worry about it. I've already got a factory farring but i kinda feel like i should be in the show chips with it on. and it still doesn't have a windshield on it. i think i like the naked feel for right now. but if i change my mind i give you a shout.

I know what you mean about the CHIPS feeling. However, after using the windshield/fairing, I can honestly say that any kind of highway travelling should always be done WITH one. The fairing just adds some bulk and stability to the wind protection, and the added storage space it nice too. I don't know if you've ridden with any kind of windhshield before, but once you do (especially on the long trips), you'll not want to take it off.
