I have Bohn Frazier's bike here at John and Kat's working on it this weekend. It's got some wierd crap going on with the tensioner and chain, but he did NOT bend any valves.. (Yet.. )

Anyway.. Bohn said Steve flew home a couple days ago. The insurance totalled the Goldwing, but only offered him $11,600 for it. It had very low miles, and he hasn't seen one like it for sale on Ebay or Craigslist under 19-20K for one with even more miles than his had.

Insurance companies are right up there with lawyers in my book.

Man that just sucks! Insurance is such a racket anyway. We sure as hell better not cheap out on paying our premiums, and deductables but when it comes to paying out on a claim, they have all these stipulations that they can use to cheap out on you, and just leave you twisting in the wind. And there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. The same thing happened to me a few years ago with an SUV that I crashed after some jerk off ran me off the road. Had the truck payed for, and what they offered me was a joke. I had to take it in the shorts on that deal. I'm with Tod, what a load of BS, and I don't mean Barbara Sriesand!!!

Sorry to hear about that with Steve. The only one that wins with an insurance company is the insurance company.

I am surprised they didn't claim pre existing damage to knock another 10 grand off that figure.

Let me know what happened with Bohn's scoot, will be interesting to hear.

I hate for Bohn to not feel like a dumbazz.. it's kind of fun to watch him.. but I don't think the adjuster thing was his fault. I got the thing all back in time, got his shims all adjusted (Several were way out on the thin side.. one even touching) put the timing plate on C, pushed in the plunger on the adjuster all the way, installed it and loosened the screw and it clicked against the adjuster bar inside. Went to turn the crank back to the T to double check the timing... and jumped the crank teeth on the chain. Pulling on the timing chain, there's still a bunch of slack.

In your hand, the adjuster looks fine (No burrs or anything on the shaft) and acts like it's suppsed to when you loosen the screw. If you leave the adjuster extended all the way and the screw loose, it will take all the adjustment up that way. I still have the extra adjuster I brought with me on the rally.. so I think I'll swap out the guts from mine with his and see if that helps.. possibly a weak spring? Anyway.. hopefully he didn't bring it here just to have ME bend the valves..

            Hey......!!!

Dang it, Tod - I was hopin' to get in on the action!!! Just didn't want my help, huh??? I'm sure there would've either been something I coulda cleaned that Bohn missed (or didn't want to - ) or that I coulda either just screwed up or generally got in your way about!! HEHEHE... Although, I do know Bohn well enough now to know there probably wasn't MUCH left to clean...
Sorry to hear that about Bohn's friend. Typical insurance Co. Seems they all suck when it's their turn to do the right thing. Just glad he's ok.
June 4th's getting closer!!! Finally scored some new TCX performance 2 boots, just in time for the trip.
Hope ya get Bohn's 11 on the road in time. I got faith in ya...

No chance of that with Bohn's bike.

There was a small amount of oil on the cylinders on the back side of #4. I don't know if had been addressed today or not, as he had left before I got home from work. That sure was one very clean bike though.

I wrote up the problems with Bohn's bike in the forum. I'll have you know that all of this started.. because he had a couple little drips out of his adjuster that was bothering him. Though that wouldn't be a problem to MOST of us... this is Bohn Frazier we're talking about.

I have a feeling this is going to be a very expensive cam chain adjustment for him... and I feel terrible about it.

                      Ya know...

Thinkin' about it, though... do you think this would've been more than likely a major breakdown on the trip anyway? I guess only time will tell, depending on what Bobby finds out when he tears it down. (DGXSER posted a strong guess... crank chain gear loose with only enough friction to work as long as plugs were out, but stop when compression applied.)
One thing's for sure... none of us would have wanted to deal w/ this on the side of the road somewhere - probably at night. (Especially on the heels following Bohn's friend's dilema with his Wing). Why... that might just be enough to turn a guy against any more road trips.......... NaHHHHHH!!!!
