  • Ride through the "Southland"

Well...to us Ohio folk, Northern Kentucky IS the Southland!

Took Thunderstruck out for a stretch today. Went down to a state park in Kentucky to check out the campground. Some nice views of the land and the lake. About 3-1/2 hours of riding, close to 200 miles.

The View from the hill where the campgound is located.

    One view of the lake

Some of the scenery from the road on the ride back

Last one, more road side scenery. Hey its Kentucky, what did you expect but fields.

You never get any pics of the cash crop around Kentucky though!
All in all a great ride, some decent twisties by the lake, and some straight highway to run it up a bit. I swear I never went over 75......7500 RPM anyway.

Hope everyone had a good day and a safe journey where ever they went.

If you get close enough to get a pic of the cash crop, then there's a good chance you'll get shot.

LOL yeah John, they usually have one of them there sines (it is Kentucky after all) that reeds "If'n yous finded here at nite, yous be finded here in the mornin' to!!"

The local joke about the "Brent Spence" or I-75 bridge (two tier bridge with south bound lanes going over top of north bound lanes), the people drivin into kentucky can throw their shoes down to the folks comin' out!

All that said, my mother and all of her family are from Kentucky, and my Dad was from Reading Ohio. Next best thing to being from Kentucky some would say.

Lord, I apologize for that there....and for being with them pigmys...amen.

I heard that at one time Kentucky and Ohio were at war with each other. The Kentuckians would throw dynamite accross the river towards the Ohioians, and they in turn would pick it up, light it, and throw it back.
I lived in Louisville for a year, 20 years ago, and heard a few good ones.

            ouch... very ouch.....

A group of hillbillies were yelling across the river at a group of buckeyes, and the conversation soon turned hostile. The Buckeyes yelled: "If we had a way across this here river, you'd be talkin' out the other side of yer face!"

The hillbillies said, "Well, I'll tell ya what. I'll turn my headlights on, and you can walk across the beams, and we'll what's what!"

The buckeyes snickered saying: "Do you think we're complete morons!? We can't do that! You'll let us get half way across and then cut the lights. WE'RE NOT STUPID!!!"

The company I work for has a plant in Hebron.I was back there last year for some training.I had a little time to drive around there,it looked like a great place to ride.We also drove into Cincinnati and wound up in the darker side.
Id love to ride a bike through Kentucky ,looks like a lot of open space.

                    Bill,

Kincaid Lake, I did not recall it being right outside Falmouth. But it is. There must be another one not far from there. Or maybe my memory went early!!

My dad lives out in the western end of VA in a tiny town called Pulaski. I love it there when I visit. It's such a peaceful area.

I'd love to tow my XS down there one summer and spend some time riding the Blue Ridge Parkway or someplace.

I saw this in Kentucky when I was going to Cincinnati To pick up my XJ.

I have always wondered since then, what went on in that park.

Funny thing is, it is a site where they found some Mammoth bones. Lived here all my life, camped there on several occasions (with family so none goes there thank you). Even drove by it on my way to East Bend Station for years. I still have NO idea where the "lick" part fits in, and not sure I want to either!

Did you know that the toothbrush was invented in Kentucky?

                            wait for it...

If it had been invented anywhere else it would have been called a TEETHbrush.
