We had a rare January day here on Saturday and it was in the 60s. I made a quick call and met up with Vincer for a ride around town. We didn't go all that far but it was enjoyable and the liquid refreshments afterward really hit the spot as well.Harry

Ah yes, the thought of a ride. Winter in the Wisconsin north woods is no joke and for the most part eliminates any thought of riding. However two weekends ago it hit 45 degrees (above zero for once!) and the roads were mostly dry so I braved the 400 yards of ice I call a driveway (a Zamboni could do it better, but not much) and got out on the road. This is a first for me, I have been out in December and in Februrary but NEVER in January! Put on about 45 miles and had a blast. Had to call a couple of my riding buddies that could not get their bikes out and rub them a little, learned a few names doing that, made it all the better. The Old Tamer

How did you spend this WARM DAY?
Well all this previous week reports were that it was going to be nice and sunny and warm this weekend, and folks were asking me if I was going to be riding! I haven't ridden Godzilla since the fall, October I think it was? So Saturday I decided to check out the bike.
Pulled the battery and looked at it with amazement! I had lost a considerable amount of water out of the NEXT to last cell, how the hell does that happen??? Anyways, voltmetered it, was 12.5 volts. Filled all the cells back up to the proper levels, and then threw it on the 2amp charger overnight. Put the voltmeter on it this morning, 14 volts...yeah!
Put it back in the bike, reconnected everything. Put a few more ounces of SeaFoam in the tank, had only run 22 miles out of it before I had parked it in the fall. Took a few attempts to fire up due to carbs being apparently dry? But it finally caught, and settled down to a nice low growl.
The temps were in the low 70's, sunny about 1pm, so I took off, headed just somewhere out of town, decided to take 17 north to Benn's Church area, and then 10 West to Surry....we have a nuclear power plant there, and on towards Hopewell, VA. This little back highway has nice sweepers and such, and there were a TON of bikes out....my arm is tired from all the waving!
After about an hour and some 70+miles I stopped for some gas and a drink/snack. There were several bikes there doing the same thing. This older Harley rider and a younger rider came up to me after I got back from the store and asked me if I was a machinist! I just mentioned that I was a HOBBYIST. They thought so, seeing all of my custom made forward controls/foot rests, my diamond plate aluminum saddle and trunk bags, etc.!
They appreciated the work I needed to do to help fit the bike to my 6'6" frame! The older guy knew and respected what the XS11 was, the younger guy was just a turnkey rider. Well I finished my drink and snack and said adios, and gave them a little show of the XS11 power when I did a little wheelie as I shifted into 2nd heading on down the road back towards home!
Got to pass a little train of 2 cars and 4 bikes(Harleys) with a nice 5th gear roll on from 60 to 90, just stretching Godzillas legs after his winter nap. All told, did about 140 miles today, a good day indeed!
Sorry, didn't stop at any place nice enough to take pictures!

Warmer!!
Only up to the low 50's yesterday and upper 40's today. Got out for a bit yesterday on the beast. Lots of snow melting around here so even with no rain, it was still wet with water running across the roads in alot of places. Gotta stay cautious around here right now, to much sand and loose gravel all over from the road treatments during the ice and snow. Still learnin how the bike handles, and with the road conditions and older cheap tires, not going to scrape anything through the twisties just yet.
So today, I took the bike to the car wash and rinsed it down, then took a good hour ride around some nice back roads, including the dreaded corner that took me down (had to concur it!). Over all a nice ride, with a few places where I got to open it up and let the big dog eat. Of course, it is now ready for another bath! But nice to get out and ride for a bit.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

It was 45 and sunny on sunday in the great white north Pa, I tried like heck to go for a ride. I got the bike out of the basement and it fired up like it was just run, but when I tried to get it up the hill, I just spun on the slick wet snow. I guess i've found the downside to keeping the bike in the nice warm basement, I don't think the hill will be dry enough until May! Maybe we can pull it up with the kid's DT.79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)
