  • Big Brutus

Since we went on this ride about a riding season and a half ago, here's the report. Yep, I put this off for a little while.

We rode from our house to West Mineral Kansas, the location of Big Brutus. Big Brutus is the pet name for a very large excavating machine that was used to mine coal. The ride was in Kansas, so not much to report about except that since I tried to take the 2 lane, I still had to go back to the 4 lane due to road construction, ugh! On the detour I decided to take my own detour and, without a map, decided that the road in front of me seemed like a good candidate to get us where we were going without hitting Satuday rush hour in Pittsburg. So out in the middle of nowhere I stop and take a look around. Sure enough I can see the boom of Big Brutus on the horizon. My manly sense of direction and navigation has saved the wifey and me again! Here's a pic of Stephanie (wifey) and the machine. I quote her when I type "Does this excavator make my butt look big?" Really, she asked that, I am not kidding.

Anyways, definitely worth a stop if you've never been. Here's a link to more pics.

Thats some rig! I know a little about Bucyrus Company since its roots are in Wisconsin. They made steam buckets for mining and were instrumental in digging the Panama Canal. For a history of the company check out their history section at http://www.bucyrus.com/history.htm

Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!
