  • Riding The Storm Out [NSFW]

I took a ride to Arizona to test my bike after re-jetting the carburetors but ... I just don't seem to be able to take a simple ride anywhere without one plot complication or another burning up or blowing the scene.

After riding through miles of fires and smoke, at dusk I spotted a sandstorm wall with 75 mph winds on the southbound Interstate 10 freeway north of Blythe, California

This is an enhanced flash photo of the full moon, stars, and desert scrub brush in the Quartzsite, Arizona desert during the sandstorm

FILE SIZE NOT SAFE FOR WORK OR DIAL-UP

    6.74 MB Flash video
Riding one-handed under a full moon through the Quartzsite, Arizona desert at night in a 75 mph sandstorm. Unfortunately (probably very fortunately for me!) the camera batteries died just before the straightaway turned into the steep canyon with its twisties.

It was a dark and stormy night

Shaky-cam, sorry! but I hope you have as much fun watching it as I had making it.

    Regards,

    Scott

    Scott,

Way to go! Shakey pics but the audio came through crystal. Bike sounds nice.

Don't you wish they made a camera that was good for low light levels/night rides?

Thanks, Larry, I like the sound, too!

There are cameras that will do night shoots but I certainly can't afford any of them. Even if I could afford one, I would not hold it in one hand and ride a motorcycle through a sandstorm. Well, okay... actually, I probably would so make that 'should not' instead of 'would not'!

When the looming, roaring, wall of sand finally hit the only thing missing was the face from the movie, "The Mummy." What you can't really see in the video is that the blowing sand absorbed most of the light. The moon showed up okay but switching on the high beam was almost totally useless. The only clue in the video is that when the blue high beam indicator light is reflected in the windshield everything seems to get darker and it's harder to see.
      It really was like that!
