  • TeXSive Lite Ride Reports

This is a post from Tinman, originally posted in the Southcentral Rallies section. I am posting it here as a Ride Report.
I organized this rally and called it TeXSive Lite, as it was an opportunity to get all the TeXSives (Texas XS11 riders) together midyear, between the bigger TeXSive Rally I put on every Sept. in the Texas Hill country. Unfortunately I was unable to attend as I hurt my back a week before the rally and couldn't ride.

    TeXSive Lite Just for Wayne!....
    Ok Wayne read closely!...

Me and the Moore's met up at a car rental place at about 730am and waited on a friend of mine until almost 830 that never showed. Little did we know that he had had a close call on the south end of Houston on 59. He got ran off the road by a cage and punctured a tire. Fortunate for him that is all that happened and he is safe. I'm sure he will show for the next TeXSive ride.
Anyway we hauled a$$ and arrived about 915am in Huntsville.
The head wind was killing my neck and bad wrist by that time.
Shack, Danny and his friends were already there waiting on us.
Sorry to the friends of Danny for my bad memory for names....;-(
I got to see "Well Oiled Machine" Very nice!
We all had a great breakfast at the Denny's. Our waitress was a hoot. She kept telling the funniest stories and had us all almost falling out of our chairs. A real comedian! And real nice lady.

Well we loaded up and took off on our route. We took 30 west to 1791 then took a right on 1375 and then on to
"OH YEAH!" 149 with all it's turns. It was a good thing I noticed the dust on the road right in a turn and slowed down. It was right after we went over the RR tracks. XSTin slid a bit anyway but that for me just adds to the experience. Adrenaline rush!
I think I bit a button whole in my seat on that one...;-P
There were only a little more blue bonnets out than when Wayne and I did the scouting run. It was kind of cold for me until about 11' ish.
It was awesome other than being a little cold. Wayne we stopped at the store we stopped at there in Richards I think for some Pix and a break and some good conversation.
Then we were off again. There was not much traffic out.
We made it back to Huntsville and topped off out tanks and decided to ride the west side of the trek before stopping to eat.
Wayne I missed that confusing connection where we made a couple of loops to get on the first part of our planned route on the other side of Huntsville. So I went straight instead and cut out the back leg of it out of our trek. It was nice all the same.
I was famished by the time we got into New Waverly. Ready for that "BIG STEAK" Danny told me about. Man I had no idea just how big! I ordered the small one and could not eat it all.
We all loaded up again and topped off our tanks. Danny and company got a head start since me and the Moore's went to the gas station on the other side of the intersection and got caught by the light. It didn't matter I was ready to roll and caught up to them. We did 80mph most of the way back with a good tail wind.
My neck was sure liking that...;-P
I got 42mpg on that tank. We split off at 45 and 288 and I headed home.

Well thats about it for me. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.
Can't wait for TeXSive in September.
    Take Care!
Keep the Shiny side up and the rubber side down.

My TeXSive Lite 2003 ride report

    (snippet)
That was when, sitting in a left turn lane, Dean and Cindy made their mark. And they made it right on the front bumper of a little red Chevy thingy that swung wide on the turn and hit them head-on!

Thanks Danny, excellent story as always. Glad all the TeXSives made it, and some new ones were initiated.

BTW, I am going to post some info in the SouthCentral Rallies section about the R.O.T. Rally. I hope to go this year if my back is good by then.
Interested? I'd like to get any TeXSives that would like to go from my area and head over to Austin for the rally. Keep an eye out for the post.

          Ride safe friend.

ROT is a HUGE rally in Austin, May 30-June 1st. My opnion it is a little pricy . . . $40 to register . . . but it is a heck of an event. The Friday night parade to d/t Austin is not to be missed . . . if you can imagine 20,000 motorcycles taking over downtown.

Last year the Sat night concert was Charlie Daniels Band . . . it was greatness.

Check out their site for more info http://rotrally.com/

I may get down there for a day . . . not sure yet.
