  • PEI @ The Cabot Trail

I just had the pleasure of spending 3 days touring with 5 great XS11 members. Brent ,Marty@Sally,Ralph@ Tracy, and i went to run the Cabot Trail a beautiful road in Nova Scotia along the coast and threw the mountains. It was great scrubbing off the Darkside tire trying to keep up with Marty on the twisties Big fat cruisers tend to make a lot of sparks when you do that but i didnt start any grass fires at least. What a great bunch to ride with good stories and lots of pictures. Ill try to post a few. We took the ferry from Pictou NS to Woods point PEI and traveled to Cavandish beach then back to my place in New Brunswick. Im back to work and they are now touring the eastern States on thier way home.

Yes, Life is good. I have missed some rallies that I hwould like to make. But, it is getting harder to complain about not riding enough, and today I got some grief while trying to collect on the unlimited mileage warrenty. I explained that if it breaks and is covered under warrenty at 10,000 miles, It should be covered at 110,000. (If still within time period.) Who knows, Maybe a clutch this week and a new motor next year.

The go cart race on PEI- I came in last.
As I was coming around the inside of the sharpest turn, Hannah (age 11, Mitches daughter, road trip passenger, XSive in the making) turned in , cutting me off, running me off the track. My inside wheels dropped off the ledge at the edge of pavement. A loud sound of metal grinding on asphault, and a rapid deceleration convinced me that this was not a good place to run off. Cart stopped. Spinning wheels throwing dirt, cloud of smoke and dust, smell of burning rubber...It was all to no avail. I was STUCK. So I gave up on smoking the tires and sat there per track instructions waiting for the young guy to come and get the cart moving. (the both of us were able to get it back on the track again. just in time for the end of race signal.)

So it looks like Hannah out drove me that day. I did pass her once earlier even if I did bump her cart (maybe just a little) on the front straight.

We missed a few photo ops. Marty was standing just outside the fence taking pictures. his batteries went dead. As he was changing them, someone hit a pile of tires knocking them towards Marty. Must have been very exciting from Martys point of view. He was so disatracted, that he put the dead batteries back in the camera.
Say! There is no photo evidence. This story might be all fiction. Maybe I did not hit the tires, bump Hannah's cart or get run off & stuck.

                      But I sure had fun.

XS content. Specials should bring additional reserve fuel. A friend with a big tank and a siphon hose might be enough.
The ride was great too. If you need premium fuel bring a little octane booster with you. 91 is as high as the octaine gets there and a couple places had 87 regular only.

It is a BIG beautiful world out there.

                      Life is short. Ride hard.

                          Ralph,
Thanks for pics. I can spot the moose. Unfair advantage for me since I saw it live before with him moving around, but not posing (like the deer who went to stand by the sign for you.)

Glad I had some octane booster in my saddlebag (store had none). This was the only gas, 87or diesel, for miles around and the last before we climed a mountain.

We were failry well prepared. Maybe wanting one more pair of pants.

                              Herd or Stampede?

                              More photos please. Marty?
I have a post card of MacKenzie Mountain on the Cabot Trail, Cape Bretton (Aerial view.) It shows the overlook where Mitch, Hannah & I stopped to look for whales. It shows the uphill straightaway and sweeping right hand curve from where the sound of your pipes was heard. It shows the tight left hander and right &left S curves and another straight. We could hear you accelerating again a few minutes after you left us. I can see the spot way up on top of the mountain. Mitch asked "can that be Ralph after all this time from so far away? The mellow distant sound was unmistakable.

I wonder why we did not see more moose? Hmm (thinking) Say your bike had been shut off for a while when the 2 deer walked up on the parkway. Right.
Still, I am very glad that we did not see any moose on that foggy night wnen Mitch came to find us in "the middle of nowhere", or a long way from any distant unknown towns or crosroads in a forign province. Wasn't it a really nice surprise to see him there?
