  • Florida ride options

Hi, I'll be in Orlando for 2 weeks from Monday 23rd July escaping the wettest UK summer I can remember(and I'm old enough to remember quite a few unfortunately).I plan to hire a bike for a couple of days while I'm there. Two questions - any recommended hire places in the Orlando district and once we get the bike where do we go for some nice twisty roads and a look at the America beyond the theme parks?
I'll have my wife on the back, so a 500 mile round trip is the realistic limit, she's not gripped by bike fever like me.
In a previous post I promised a ride report on our Nurburgring trip earlier in July - here it is - it rained all the way there,it rained all the time we were there,it rained all the way back.Complete contrast to our 2005 trip which was hot and dry.Still , nobody crashed this time, or got into trouble with a German barmaid.

I've just been on eBay and bought some hard luggage - rain and the soft panniers are not a marriage made in heaven.

Still looking for a decent XS11 in the UK,all I've seen so far are sheds.

    keep it between the hedges,

    Smoke

    Florida rides

    Greeting Smoke.

There are several rental places in Orlando, but not a whole lot of twisty roads. I suggest these web sites and would recommend the Ocala National Forest. However, it is our rainy season also. Mostly storm each day about 3:00 pm.
If you make it up to the Jacksonville area (150 miles north of Orlando), let me know.

      Hi Smoke,
Glad to see Hobbit jump in wth the fact Florida does not specialize in twisties.... they don't do hills either.
Although essentially straight I would recommend A1A highway from Daytona North to St Augustine as one of my favorites. Also at Ormond Beach look for the road to Tomoka State Park.
Let us know how you get on with tental places.

Seems that I remember that the highest point in Florida is 150' above sea level.

Ride Florida, 11 turns in 318 miles.

Could head for Key West, I hear it's fun down there, about 400 miles from Orlando.

Now I know theres more than that...
Got lost in a trailer park once, made the same turn 3 times from three diffeent directions, does that count
