  • Two Bikes now..remember the basics!!!!!!

Well, I really love my two bikes...I have been real busy

lately and have not rode in a while..My friend calls me and offers

a few minutes of escape. I help him install a new battery in his

97 Honda Shadow 1100 and we are ready.. I uncover the old XS

11 and choke the beast and bingo!!! She starts like a new one!! I

have not touched the bike in a few weeks...I did check the oil and

kicked the reAr tire and off we go!! It is 3 lights til an open

stretch of a block...I ease on the throttle and shift her around 6k

and she is purring like a kitten."Stock Exaust" No problems..We

pull in to get some fuel and off we go again... I realize there are

some grooves in the road up ahead so I let off the throttle at

    around 5500k in 4th and "^$^#@^#*&^%*&&@&^$$%" dog

gone..the front shimmies like mad!!! I finally get some control of

the bike and figure it was another no brace reaction...I always

get a shimmy when I let off a hi speed run...This time it was not

the brace alone I had a tire with low low air pressure!!! After my

prayer of thanks I slowly pull over...my friend thought he had

finally out run the XS11...he did..but I was on one good tire...I say

this only to remind me that I should do a complete check every

time I mount the beast!!! I am very thANK FUL THE BIKE AND ME

ARE STILL IN GOOD SHAPE Just a side note...If I would have

been on the Bandit I could have just hit the throttle and rode a

    wheelie to the gas station

    Shack,

You also need to check your steering head bearing preload. A fork brace is nice, but you mention that you get a shimmy on let off, even with a good tire. Should not be man. Check those bearings.

      Was wondering about that shimmy

      Be Careful Dude!
Yeah I was wondering about that shimmy on mine too!
Only mine only does it tween 40 and 45mph but it's mild.
It will go to wild if I take one hand off the bar.
      Un nerving at best.
Thanks Danny! I will check mine. I kind of suspected the steering head bearings were loose.
Robert Moore put a brace on his XS11G and we went on the BBQ run Sunday 2 weeks ago and I noticed he was riding more agressive uh XSive...
I mentioned it to him later and he said that the bike felt a lot more stable in the turns than before.
He found a nice twisty back road between Katy and Brookshire that has a really good BBQ place called the Swinging Door.
Thats why we call it the BBQ run. It was kind of cold that day, almost to cold. But still very enjoyable!
Knowing how sensitive the XS's are about tire pressure I keep a close watch on it.
It is a good idea especially if you have not been riding the beast for a while to check everything before even a brief juant.
      Take Care!!!
Keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up!
