  • XS1100 rally in Germany

In June 2002 we celebrated our annual XS rally in Germany.

There were about 260 XSives from Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Wow Klaus, great bikes! Rally looks like it was great fun. I'm always impressed with the bikes from Germany and all of Europe, you guys have some excellent XS's over there. Thanks for sharing the photos.

p.s. Is seems there are more XS's in Europe that in North America. Was the bike more popular over there or do they just take better care of them? I know they sold more and different models there than here. Just wondering.

            XS in Germany

            Hi Wayne,

in Germany they sold about 5300 XS, Model 2H9, between 1978 and 1984. From the Model 5K7 around 300, from 1982 - 1984.

Unfortunately I donĀ“t know the number of XS which survived.

But I try to check this.

            Greetings

            Klaus

              Thanks Klaus
Our models only go to 1981. That may explain why so many are in Europe.

It would be very cool to have an 83 or 84 XS1100 here in the States. Of course shipping would be twice the cost of the bike!

                Bit of trivia, actually.

XJ was sold in the US (Model 10M) in '82, Canada/Mexico(?) had it through '84.

Some states register a vehicle in the year it was sold, not model year, so there are some US XS 11s registered as later than '81. Think the 'newest' XS11 I've heard of was registered as an '84. My Yamaha V-Max 540L snowmobile is registered as an '85, as it was purchased and first registered that year even though it is an '86 model year.

In Wisconsin, for quite a period of time, a vehicle was registered by the date code of the engine. I had a '46 Plymouth with a '52 engine, car was registered as a '52! Think this changed in the early '80s, don't know exactly when.

Registering vehicles is not an exact science, one of the reasons factory production records are often more accurate than state's registration numbers.

I would be interested in seeing the figures for the US market, if anyone can find them.
