I had to have one last ride with Sancha (XS1100E) before selling her and starting on the next project, my other XS11E.
I met up with a coworker who also rides, we left out of San Antonio at about 10 AM heading north on Hwy 281 into the dark cloud covered regions on our way to Llano. We made it as far as Blanco when the rains hit, all we got were a few sprinkles, but just ahead on the road it was pouring. We then decided that Gruene was also a nice place to visit (not that the rain was a deterrent, we both being very long time riders, we just conveniently changed our destination! ). We turned back down 281 to Smithson Valley Rd about 15 or so miles south of where we were, ended up in Sattler and on to Startsville to a "Gift and Motorcycle Accessories” shop ran by a woman who owns and rides. We bs'ed a little in the parking lot, mostly about bikes, add-ons, etc. We then headed on to Gruene, we took a great route down along the river, really nice scenery. Once in Gruene, we ate lunch at Adobe Verde restaurant, great food if you're not on a real tight budget. Then a little shopping at some of the many shops in the area, including a stop at a place called "Bubba's Big Deck", checked out some of the custom choppers and other bikes in the parking lot. At this point we decided to head on to Llano anyway. So, back along the river to Sattler and Smithson Valley, then west to 281 and north to Johnson City. There we met up with SWMBO in the Dodge. We gassed up again (no, not from the fajitas at the Adobe Verde), and headed out. We found a few back roads that eventually took us to Hwy 71 and on to Llano. We had dinner at Coopers Old Time Pit Barbeque (really good BBQ!). After dinner and another strategy conference we headed to Fredericksburg, but by the time we rolled through town they were rolling up the sidewalks. A little bummed but not quite ready to head home yet (after all it was only 9PM at this time), we headed on out to Luckenbach. The town was a little quiet, but there was still some life. The store was open and so was the bar. We made a few deposits the register of each. I finally found a Denim Jacket that fits! I've been looking for months! We were entertained by the solo acoustic guitar player who also sang pretty good, tried to figure out how the chickens got up into the trees, drank a couple of sodas and then headed on into the night. We arrived home just after midnight. A nice ride of just over 335 miles, a few souvenirs, met some new people, and over all had a lot of fun!
