Four Corners

I've enjoyed the conversation on travels to the four corners of the USA---not the "4-Corner states" mentioned by Roy rogers---(so she told you it was mutton stew?)

I saw Rush was at Madawaska Maine and Key west FL but where were the western corners? I had a local Madawaska resident tell me that there was an island off shore that would claim the farthest NE corner but I elected not to go there. The bums running around Key west kept me from camping out as planned. I'll wait to hear from others where the NW and SW corners are located---sure they're in WA and CA but where? John mentioned Fort Kent, MA, Port Angeles, WA., Marathon Key FL and San Yisidro, CA. but my 4 corner lopcations were all different. As soon as I scan and convert my four page newsletter (to PDF format) about the first leg (NW corner) I'll enter the link and let you know the day by day details good restaurants, floating golf green and sunflowers as far as you can see in all directions---and other highlight that I still dream about twelve years after it ended. The second leg newsletter (SW) will be the next publication. Completing the once in a lifetime journey was worth it and I want to duplicate it in my small camper van with motorcycle trailer in tow.

according to the SCMA the 4 corners are Blaine Wa, San Yasidro Ca, Key West Fl, and Madawaska Maine.

4-Corners

I'll have to talk with my partner/navigator regarding the NW and SW corners. He's fairly precise and Neah Bay definately appears west of Blaine WA. The route to Blaine appears a lot straighter than what we took to get to Neah Bay.

Regarding the SW corner, it was windy and raining when we crossed the Coronado Bridge to get to Border Field State Park which is about 5 miles west of San Ysidro. I see that the Interstate would be more direct than the route we took. Crossing the high bridge during the wind and rain was a bit scary. The only activity in Border Field State Park were guards patrolling the area for illegals crossing into the USA.

The NE and SE corners were predictable with Key West having the large buoy with markings on it.

I don't know SCMA but will look them up on Google and try to find their rules of establishing the four points.
Thanks for the reply--it was a great ride and I think about it often.

My NW report is four pages including a map and one photo. One of these days I'll figure out how to allow others to see it.

4 Corners

The points that I referred to are just the areas that I had been to in my life. They weren't intended to be any kind of 4 corners accomplishement. When I said San Yisidro, Ca, I quess I was mistaken as to where the Border Field State Park was. I was in the Navy, stationed on a aircraft carrier in Coronado, (didn't you love that bridge?) and living in Imperial Beach, Ca at the time. When I was there, there was only one guard, toting an M-16, down on the beach, near the end of the fence. I was on a bike at the time. That was in 78, and I was riding a 72 Yamaha TX 750. I was on vacation in '88 and I spent a few days in Ft. Lauderdale, and one of my Navy buddies was from Marathon Key, so I decided to look him up. My Grandfather had a summer home in Sequim, WA, and we went to Port Angles a few times. Ft. Kent , Maine was to go to the campus of U of Maine, Ft. Kent to see one of my high school buddies, and get wasted. I grew up in Maine, and, you know, back in the mid 70's, any excuse for a party road trip. I have been to Eastport, Maine, the most easterly point in the US, as part of my job delivering propane gas back in the early 80's. As a side note, did you know that Reno, Nv is further west than Los Angles?
