  • partsnmore turn signals/other bad parts!

I know it was posted somewhere before but I want to make sure all here know thequality of the standard front/rear turn signal
part code 11-2185 is very bad. The part is useless for any xs11 application other than the lens and bulb assy. I bught it in March and when I installed it yesterday it broke when I tightened the sinch bolt. I sent an email to partsnmore telling them of the quality conrol issue and requested a refund. Im sure they purchased the stock in good faith but if they continue to sell them when they know they are bad parts, then that is dishonest.
WE have threads on the oil we use, who has the fastest bike, and great rides. Do we need a thread to post bad parts?
    They were only $10.00 each.

What do they say? "You get what you pay for." "If it sounds too good to be true..."

    Well,
Geezer posted a while back about these very same items, sorry to hear about your bad experience. BTW, I renamed this thread to include the subject of other bad parts, great idea!!!

I got this gasket from them before I had taken mine apart, and they are definitely the wrong part for both my 81 SH Special, as well as a 79SF Special carb. Not sure about the Standards, but I would imaging that they are NOT the right part either, since all of the 78-79 carb bowls are the same, and the 80-81 bowls are the same, so somehow they've gotten the wrong part listed for OUR BIKES!! The other shaped gasket with the tab sticking out of the side IS the correct one!
    FLOAT BOWL GASKET
    Fits: XS1100 (80-84), XS1100S (80-81) Special, XS1100L (1980).
    OEM Reference # 10L-14984-02

    $3.00US /gasket Part#20-7024
I have gotten other parts from PNM, exhaust pipe gaskets, clutch plates, valve cover gaskets, mirrors, and they have all been of good quality.

      K & L carb kits=bad jets!

Just saw a post that reminded me to state about the K&L kits having the wrong pilot and possibly even main jets in their carb kits!! Just an FYI, most folks know this, but we seem to be getting newbies almost every day!! Yeah!

        Weak Metal Footpegs

I got these footpegs for replacements for my passenger pegs, I rarely ride 2 up, but mine were badly rusted and such.
        12mm REPLACEMENT FOOTPEGS

        $5.00US /Pr Part#19-0102
They seemed to work at the beginning, but during a rally where I took my Mom, after several episodes of getting on and off the bike, she weighs around 200 lbs, the left one started to bend down past horizontal , so I then started letting her get on the bike first, using MY stronger driver pegs and then scooting back onto the passenger portion of the seat, and moving her feet to the rear pegs, but without having to put her full weight on them.

So...at $5.00 a pr, they are adequate as resting foot pegs, but not strong enough to hold the riders weight during mounts and dismounts!

TC, you might want to look at making this a STICKY either here or under the Product Evaluations section. That way, it's always easily accessable when people start looking to order parts from various retailers.

            Just a suggestion...

                Thanks TC!
I haven't been back to this post in a while. I was surprised.
I thought it might be of use. BTW partsnmore did not respond to my email. No apology, not no way, not no how!

I also purchased a set of mirrors. They are somewhat okay, but one of them has a loose pivot and I constantly have to adjust due to vibration moving it.

Yep, they're crap alright. Mine broke the first time I tightend the bolts. It was sure a high price for bulbs and lenses.

Some Good Parts, Some Poor Parts!

Just got a few more parts from PNM, wanted to review their quality!

The replacement Ignition switch for my 81SH, the 4 wire style. Well, the wires are not wired correctly, so the tail lights didn't come on! ALSO, the gauge of the wires used is much smaller, especially for the MAIN POWER wires, instead of 12ga, they look to be 16-18 ! I was able to fix the situation though! My original switch was bad due to the key lock set, but the wiring contact base was good. I just unscrewed the new one and the old one, pulled out the contact base and all of it's HEAVY wires, and stuck in into the bottom of the new switch, screwed it back together, and ALL the lights and Ignition worked, and I felt more secure with the larger gauge wires as well!! This switch only sold for $15.00, perhaps the ones on BB or Old Bike Barn would have the heavier wires, or be wired correctly, but don't know?

Also got a set of the zinc plated side cover screws, and the black coated hand clutch and brake levers which worked well!

So...I don't want to portray PNM as selling only bad parts, just have to know what you're getting.

I bought one of those switches too but after cleaning the original switch, I didn't need it and it's still in the box. One of these days, I'll dig it out and see what it'll take to bring it up to code...

The P&M levers I got are good enough but the stock levers have a bronze bushing in the pivit bolt hole.

I'm still happy with the ignition, carb, brake & parts and gaskets I've bought from them. However most of the parts I've ordered from them have been for various bikes I'm working on for others and not either of my XS11s.

                        PartsNMore dishonest transaction

Just wanted to throw my $.02. I ordered a MC kit and rear pads for my XJ, the day after ordering, I sent a mail to try to cancel the order. (The site said my stuff wouldn't ship until today, I mailed last Friday).

I received a reply Monday morning that it was too late to cancel as the order had already shipped. This was a patent lie, I got the mail today that the part was scheduled for pickup by FedEx at their location today .

I had decided to go with a different front brake setup from my spare XJ750 and didn't need one of the parts.

I don't mind if it was really too late, but they flat lied to me. That is unacceptable, I won't be doing anymore business with them.

I recently got a batch of gaskets and stuff from P&M and all was OK. But this is the first time I have ordered from them.

Last year I replaced the turn signals on my special and bought the parts from Dennis Kirk. Were about $17.00 each but the quality was like OEM.

And yes, the pilot jets in the K&L rebuild kits for the 79 1100 special are WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! Had 8 holes instead of the required six and caused me fits until I replaced them with true Mikuni pilots.

                            Bad Air Filter

OK, I'm joining the chorus. I recently bought a few things from them (Partsnmore) including an air filter for my 80SG that would not fit because the frame of the filter was too small. I am in the process of returning the bad filter.
