Where I work we use a line of products form Bowman Dist. They have a product called Gasket, Paint and Decal remover. That stuff really works! Don't get it on you though. I used it to strip the paint from my engine before sandblasting it. It dissolves built up carborn off pistons, valves, combustion chambers, and anywhere else it may be. It comes in a spray can. The same size as spray paint cans.
Is this the stuff by Kleen-Flo? If so, this has been recommended in the past for removing the clear coat on aluminum engine parts prior to polishing. I haven't used it, but it sounds like the same stuff.

By the way why do we want to remove aircraft? I don't have one that's bothering me or am I missing something, they are pretty big I'm sure I would have noticed it.
Removes aircraft and most of the space ships from your engine.
Nasty buggers tend to wedge themselves between the fins.
I use a toothpick for helicopters. Submarines come off with some soap and water. Soviet nuclear ones tend to overheat the engine, early US ones too, so watch out.
Jokes aside, has anyone tried it on an aircraft?

aircraft striper works good on stripping a mercedes hood(worked at body shop in high school)...burns like hell when you get even a small drop on you...old paint takes longer and sometime second application

can be very efective stuff. Use according to directions. Yes burns good on skin. Yes offten needs two even three coats sometimes. But is a pain to clean up the area when through and parts MUST be CLEANED SPOTLESS of all stripper BEFORE prime and paint. We've used it on very rare automobile restorations with good results.

When you strip and polish the engine, do you recoat it with clear coat? If so, any brand in particular that resists color change from the heat?
I'm thinking of stripping mine and just painting it black with VHT paint...I don't know the temp range that the engine actually gets to, so I figure the higher the better. I'd love to try some of the other "Engine" paints if I knew that the temp rating would be ok...I think they run about 500 degrees F.
Any advice guys?

The Aircraft paint remover works well and is very convient in a spray can.
I found Jasco Preminum Paint and Epoxy Remover (Ace Hardware) works as well. Around $28 a gallon. I use it to strip powder coating. The aircraft stripper works, but takes a lot fo it.
On a similar note....
I'd like to remove the 24 years of wax build-up on the painted pieces of the MN Special I just got.
What is a good product for removing the old wax without harming the original paint?
Once the paint is uncovered I want to touch-up some chips and polish the parts and re-wax anew.

I like 3M Perfect-It III Finishing Glaze. It is a polishing compound. This will clean the surface very nicely and polish up the clear coat. I use a cotton wheel on my cordless drill for my motorcycle. It works well by hand and a clean cotton rag. Wash the surface with soap and water first.
If you are worried about removing material, then SimpleGreen and warm water will remove wax.

I WD40'd the left side of the bike (engine and frame). What a difference! The bike has been sitting outside for several years and the engine was grey. Monday or Tuesday I'll take it to the car wash to remove the WD and it's suspended dirt.
I need to take a pic of the right side as a "before" photo as the difference from right to left is like day and (Mid)night .
Now I'm glad my key fob has XS Eleven on one side and XS Eleven Special on the other.
