A riding buddy just recently on a whim purchased a used (in very good condition) Slipstreamer Spitfire windshield M-3 AS-6. I have wanted a windscreen for sometime now. Since the XJ has the wacky adjustable handlebars you are limited by what you can use and many of the universal windscreens look hideous, even the ones supposedly designed to fit the XJ. Well, I have been able to attach the Spitfire to my XJ.
On the XJ there is a slot and hole in the vertical aluminum section of the bars that I used to mount part of the mount that holds the windshield by doing this the windscreen sits just a head of the clocks and behind the headlight. It hold it in place quite snugly. While not perfect it works the mounts work but if the screen it not attached they sit kinda loose but tightens up when the windshield is attached. By using the stock allen screws that came with the windshield the allen screw head takes up over a alot of space. So, I had to reroute one wire on the right bar vertical aluminum section outside of the handle bar wire chase so I used a zip tie to keep the wire from hanging loose.
If you were to use a screw with a flatter head it should make more room for the wires also some washers will help in mounting the windshield. One thing to note is that it will hinder handle bar adjustment the way the windshield is mounted, but the adjustment range is very limited since there are pins that pevent large or dangerous adjustments to the handlebars Anyway I do like the way it looks. It is minimal and it does more to compliment the look of the bike without sticking out like s sore thumb. If I could have I would have posted pictures.
