Decided to order the above for the purpose of measuring float height. When I decide to undertake that project, I will let you guys know if it performs any better than a standard digital caliper with the depth gauge on the bottom.

Like this?
I have one of these and it works very well. It has to rest on the lip of the carb body, so that space must be accounted for.Marty (in Mississippi)

Mmhmm. But, from my understanding (I could be wrong), you want the measurement point of reference to not be on that thin ridge, but the flat spot on either side of the ridge. In other words, the tip of my caliper should rest on thevflat spot of either side of the ridge. Correct? If not, then I've been measuring float height on all my bikes wrong, all these years.Last edited by IanDMacDonald; 01-25-2015, 03:56 PM.1979 XS1100F

Ohhhhh . . . I see what ur saying Marty. Your carb ruler is too wide to manipulate the flat area. So, you have to "account" for that with your's. Gotcha.1979 XS1100F

It does read flat across the top of the float. That is its only real advantage.Marty (in Mississippi)

Yeah, but you have the flat plastic floats. Much easier for you.1979 XS1100F
