  • Dynojet Stage 1 Jet Kit

About $130.00 from Dennis Kirk. Mine did not say street illegal in the (Chaparral) catalog and the company specified no refund on the product.
I put them in and I couldn't keep the front end down. I have questioned the Police and they can't really tell me what is illegal about the jets. I took mine out just in case.

I don't think that there is any laws/regulations dealing with carb jets. Heck, putting turbos on is legal. There are some laws dealing w/ cams., but don't recall hearing anything about jetting. However, not keeping the front end down could be xs'essive display of speed ( that got me escorted to the county in Laramie ).

If you want to get technical, any modifications to a moter vehicle that will affect engine emissions is illegal by federal law. Some states (CA, PA) will fine a shop for modifying a customer's vehicle, but as far as I am aware nobody actually enforces what a person does to his own vehicle as long as it passes state emissions inspection requirements. At this time I am not aware of any states testing emissions on bikes (yet). Even if they did I am sure they would be pretty liberal with something as old as an XS11. So go ahead, put your jets in, have fun, and let law enforcement prove your machine is illegal!

i got my stage 1/ stage 3 K&N Jet kit (made by DYNO-Jet). it did not include the spings, but came with Jets, needles, clips, drill bits, and a few coupon for a DYNO Run at your nearest DYNOJET DYNOMETER.
I had it shipped to my door for $47.00.
I heard they were selling off a lot of these kits, and are no longer making them. Get them while you can.
go to the K&N motorsports website

I may not install my new Jardine 4-1 and the jet kit this year. I still need to coat the headerpipes interally with Blue Shield.
I put the factory exhaust on it yesterday, test rode. Got my tags renewed today, and I am mobile for another season. I may wait till I polish out the engine before installing the exhaust., which will most likey be next winter.

              Jet kit

Ok Bill, I can't find the K&N web site. I want to order the jet kit for my 79XS11F. Dennis Kirk don't show one in their catalog for my bike. Went to Dynojet web site and they don't show one for my bike either.

silly question, but would'nt buying a stage 7 mean it would be faster?

                      Stoopid question:

If the K&N rebuild kits are so notorious for being wrong for our bikes, what makes you think their jetting kits are OK?

                      Just curious

I don't know much about the science of re-jetting. I've just now recovered from being a K&L rebuild kit victim. I bought my kits way back last December, before I joined the forum. Bike ran like it was tied to a tree. Found out way too late that K&L is famous for packing the wrong pilot jets in the XS kits. Replaced the original pilots and WHAMMO! Joy.

Do a search here about re-jetting. There are ways to do it with stock Mikuni parts that I would venture to guess will give you fine performance at a low price, like 3-4 bucks per main jet. Suppliers are also listed here.

                          Have fun

i'll do that, but is there anyway to tell if a bike has been jetted already? Looking like jetting consist of drilling. I'd hate to buy the stuff and find out its already been drilled out and jetted.

Poorboy, If you don't have performance problems, leave it alone. If you really need to know what's in there, take a look at the main jet. There is a number stamped on it. Look up your models' jet numbers in the posts here and compare the stock size to what you read on your jet. Then you'll know for sure whether or not your jets have been changed from stock.
