As far as ride and handling I love the tire. In the wet it is good as well. However, in preparation for XSEast I aired it up to 40 psi. Tire tubs the swingarm, has a highspot that will make the bike pulse down to a stop. Lowered the air to 34 (hot) and you only hear it rub (squeaks) coming to a stop, no longer effects the bike rolling.

I ran a GT501 last season and loved it. Had no problem running it at 40. If i would have had the money, that is what would have went on this season. Only got 7800 miles out of it though.

I think you have a defective tire. I have gone through many pairs of GT501 both on my XS11 and my XS650. They have all been perfect. They are a very close fit on the xS650 and I have found no such defects.

The only reason I have something else on my bike now is because I thought I might get more miles out of a touring tire. The jury is still out.

Must be a defect, hopefully DK will provide some help on this. Got maybe 1000 miles on it.

Here is the brake side of the tire...

And here is the drive shaft side. I started wandering if it would make it home..

Spoke with DK, they insist it is a mech issue on the bike. Say it can't be in the tire and even sound the tire. I would think the only possible issue would be wheel bearing, but that should feel in the ride.

I suppose it could be a wheel bearing, but i would think there would be other signs as well. I hope you got one of those rear bearings.

                  hey don,
put the bike on the centerstand and see if
the rear wheel will wobble when u shake it
from the side, for the tyre to rub like
that and for it to be a collapsed wheel bearing
                  u should feel it.
i couldnt tell from the pic, but is the wear on the sidewall
from rubbing right around the tyre or part of it?

Pete the rub mark is a complete circle. More prominent on the lettering of course. Letters are almost gone where it rubs. I would think as much twisty hilly road I was on for XS East, if there was a bearing issue that bad I would have felt it in the handling.

I just figure I did not change them when I got the bike, would not hurt to do it. Then would eliminate that from being the problem, their excuse.

                      not to sure then don,
how does the rear calliper line up with the disc?
if there was something wrong with it, it would
be on the side of the final drive but i cant think
of anything off hand that would cause the wheel
to sit closer to the f/d.

Not a bad question, it is 130/90/16. The 130/90 shows in the first picture of the brake side of the wheel.

Sorry about that. I only saw it in the pic when I reopened the thread.
Has the tyre been on there long? Maybe the inner spacer (out from the special caged bearing) from the drive spline area dropped out while the wheel was off and has allowed the wheel to move over. Just a theory. Couldn't be much else or you would certainly hear it.

well.... if the caliper lines up with the disc... then the FD side spacer is in place. If it wasn't, nothing would line up right... the thing would wobble like a car tire with loose lug nuts. All points to a tire too wide in my opinion. Being correct size it would then point to a tire not manufactured to right specs... IE too much sidewall thickness or too wide of cap. I'd shove it up the suppliers A$$ if I were in your shoes!
