  • Honda VTX1800

Any thoughts on these bikes. I rode a 2003 Saturday and it handled like a dream. Lots of power, and it is probably one of the most comfortable bikes I have ever sat on. It had 4000 miles on it and I can get it for under 7000. Someone told me Honda flooded the market with these in '03 and that is why they are so cheap. The Honda dealership here has a new '03 for 8700, but the used one I has some good aftermarket stuff. Floorboards, pipes, seat, and custom grips make it worth more than the new to me.

These bikes have held my interest for a while. Have never ridden one but they sit very comfotably on the showroom floor. I just have a hard time buying a Harley Clone. I think that they would smoke a Harley n every aspect like ride, quality for the money, speed, fit and finish. I just know that it is modeled to look similar to a Harley to get some of those dollars. Other than that I would like to own one.

I rode one a couple of years back when our local dealer had the demo fleet in town. To tell the truth, I thought the torque was pretty impressive, but I did not care at all for the feet-forward riding position. After about a half hour ride, I was glad to get back on Tsunami with my feet and legs more underneath me than stuck out in front. Granted, I rode the VTX the way it was when it came out of the trailer, so I might have had a better experience if I had a chance to tweak the handlebars, floorboard positions, etc. Guess some guys are cruiser riders, some are sport bike riders, and some like me prefer the good old standard ride.
      YMMV....

        Riding position

I know what you mean about the riding position. The forward controls do take some getting used to after riding so long with your feet underneath you. The VTX I rode was so comfortable though. They could not have measured me and built one to fit me more. It still felt a little strange with the feet forward though. I rode a friends sportser a while back and I could never get used to that thing, but the VTX was sweet. I will probably wait until next year for the finances to be better, but I do intend to get one of them.

The VTX from what i understand is a torque horse. But i am personally NOT a v-twin fan in any way.
(Twin cyl. engines belong on John-boats and riding lawnmowers)

Although I am now riding a Honda Valkyrie, which is a great bike, if I were to buy new, I much perfer this bike over the VTX. Its a v-four (and a Yamaha). both of which are better.

            Checked it out

I was never much of a V-twin fan either until I rode this bike. It was really a very nice ride. I have looked at the V-4 Yamaha also, and I liked it too, but for the money I could actually get a lot more bike with the Honda right now. I am not going to be buying a new one until next spring so I have some time to look them all over and decide. I actually went to Yamaha's website and built a Road Star to see what it would cost me. It topped out pretty close to 15,000. I could get the VTX for under 10 grand right now, so that is a pretty big factor for me.

I understand that for sure. Price is always a big consideration.
              Good luck in your search.
