  • headlight problems

okay here's the deal. i've got this XS650SG my headlight comes on sometimes and sometimes not. when it does its very weak and gets stronger as i throttle. i've checked voltage to the fuse and it's 14.5 when i get above 2500rpm's so it's charging right? someone told me to change reserve lighting unit didn't work any other ideas? this is really cramping my night time riding, need to fix soon, season almost over. thanks in advance

AND THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE???

    Headlight

Remove the headlight trim ring so that you can measure the voltage at the headlight while it is hooked up. I found that due to the reserve unit causing a voltage drop that I only had 9.5 volt making it to the light.

If you have low voltage, move the negative voltmeter lead to a good ground and recheck. If the voltage comes up you have a bad ground, if not a voltage drop on the power side.
