        Thanks guys

Thanks Topcat, Czekus21, Sksxs1100 and GNEPIG for all your replys to my post. There's just a wealth of knowledge here, that's just one of the reason why I love the XS11 web site. Well while I was waiting for some of you guys to post a reply, I decided to call some Harley shops. I called 4 different shops, 3 dealerships and 1 Harley speed shop. I talked to their service department's, and much to my surprize they were all very helpful. The first one told me not to do it at all, I would loose to much low end power. The second shop told me it would be ok, but only drill a couple of small holes in the baffle's. The third shop told me I could drill out the baffle's, but to use a bit alittle smaller than the dia. of the baffle, so as to leave about a 1/8" shoulder inside the pipe. By doing this the shoulder would give me enough resistance to create some back pressure. And I may not even have to change out my jet. The forth shop which was the Harley speed shop, pretty much told me the same thing the third shop told me. So a couple of you guy's said to drill out the baffle's and two out of four shops said to do the same thing. I decided today was the day. I went to Lowes and bought a 1'' hole saw and a 12'' extension came home took off the mufflers and went to work. After drilling out the baffle's leaving a 1/8'' shoulder on the inside, like two of the shops said to do , I put the mufflers back on. They also told me because of federal reg. that new bikes carbs were setup a little rich and because of this I might not have to rejet, but to keep an eye on the pipes at the heads to see if they started to turn a dark amber color. If they did or if the bike ran rough I would probably have to rejet. So after I finished putting the pipes back on, I could'nt wait to crank her up to hear what she sounded like. All I can say is sweet real sweet. The pipes sounded great, i was so happy. Now for the real test, take her out for a spin. I had only planned to go a couple of miles, but once I got out there on the road and she sounded so good I had a hard time finding my way back home which turned out to be a good thing, this gave me a chance to blow her out a little and also get those pipes good and hot. I did'nt notice any flat spots or change in my low end power. Once home I took a look at the pipes up close to the heads, no discoloration. All's good in my world

You know, I have both in my barn. The "over priced" under powered, low reving bike actually took my fathers life ten years ago, and was fully restored by a bunch of my old mans friends, and given to me as a 21st birthday present. Before I got that, I was riding a v65, which I still have...as well as the xs I bought this spring. I can seriously say, the fact that a guy rides a bike, proves his labour of love, doesn't matter if it's a special, or a harley. If I am riding, I give the left hand to anyone on two wheels when I pass them. There are pro's and con's to both bikes, we all know that! so quit pestering the guy, after all, this is the "other bikes" forum, and I seriously think he has the right to post without the BS, if he posted in the 11 forum...then it would have been game on...but seriously, guys got a good question.

Bikeboy...Eagles are awsome man, start eating KD and hotdogs for a couple of months and save up bro!!! Hope you enjoy "all' your scoots as much as I do.

Like sksxs1100 said drill out the plug in the stock exhaust. Don't remember the size but use a hole saw and drill it out as big as you can. If you don't change the jets or it you have FI it will run a little leaner (not enough to hurt anything) but it willl give you more power (but don't even thing about racing an XS11) and better gas mileage. I think HD designed it to be drilled out but the dealer wants to sell you a new exhaust system. If you want more info, email me.

Before you punch or do any thing to that harley tell us if its injected if so you are going to have to change the comp on it these are not the harleys I grew up messing with there are many things you need to know before you just go punchining the exhaust just be careful go back to the shop and talk to the mechanics to see what all you need to do
                    peace and have fun riding

Back when my Guzzi was still running, I rode it for a couple years with blown out Dunstal mufflers. They started out as muffler in name only and only were slighly louder after the baffles blew out. It's amazing I never got busted for noise with that beast. It was the loudest bike in Astoria, Oregon for 2 years running then I moved.
