  • Yamaha MX80

I just picked up a 1980 Yamaha MX80 for my kids to thrash around as a starter bike (my oldest boy STILL has a BFG). It needs a ring job, I have very little knowledge of 2-strokes, and there isn't as much info out there online as there is with the other bikes I've rebuilt. Has anyone ever had one of these and can give some words of wisdom before the boy and I tear into it?

    pretty easy

ahhh the old 2 stroke. Very easy to do work on those little bikes. small lite, little bolts. Just watch for clogged exhaust systems. one day it'll just loose power, will run you ragged finding the prob. The exhaust gets clogged from too much oil in the mix and won't allow the exhaust to escape. runs real bad or won't start at all.But still nice to work on XSpecally with the kids to help learn a few things. Have fun.
