  • Carb Question

Any body know if the bowl gaskets for the XS's will fit on an FJ11? The main P/N is the same, just the prefix is different
3F7-14984-00-00 is the P/n for the XS
3XW-14984-00-00 is the P/N for the FJ.
I just cleaned SWMBO's FJ11's carbs...yuck...lot of crap on/in the emulsion tubes, or the main nozzle as it's called in the parts description. They cleaned up nicely with a couple of cans of Berrymans B-12, and some compressed air. All the jets and needles came out easily. The only area with crap was the main nozzles.

    what the book says

the frist three digits represent the model.the next five digit represent the section and part num. the frist of this five is the the section of the bike. the num 1 here is for the engine a 2 is the frame and 8 is for the elec. or wireing. so let take a look at your part num. we have 3f7-14984-00-00and 3xw-14984-00-00 the (3f7 and the 3xw) are model. now on the the next five digits. these are the same the frist is a 1 which is for the engine.now on to the 4 for a carb. i would say it will work the 9th and 10th digit are for any modifications. hope this helps
If you spend to much time with me at work. then park it and cab it!!!

        Sorry, I do not agree...

Although Old Bartender gave a very good description of Yamaha's parts reference system, the conclusion is wrong...

It is correct that 1 is an engine part, 4 is a carb part and 984 is: float chamber gasket, paper type gasket, 1.6 mm thickness.
But all the float chamber gasket, paper type, 1.6 mm thick will have those same 5 digits !
The difference is the prefix 3 digits : they indicates which model this part have been designed for.
Totally different bikes with totally different carbs use those same 5 digit:

        XS 1 (650) : 256-14984
        XS 11 E (type 2H7) : 2A2-14984
        XS 11 SE : 3F7-14984
        XS 360 : 1L9-14984

And your 3F7 may be either slightly or totally different from 3XW

differences between carb gaskets are often very slight : just a hole have been added and you can drill yourself using old gasket as a template... ...if you kept it

Just hope you're a lucky man

You're right about the differences. The prefix makes all the difference. I've been researching other parts for cross reference lately, and I have seen the differences... I will have to order more gaskets for the FJ, or cut a hole in the gasket where it needs to have one. I still have the old gaskets...they're still on the carbs.
