Barnyard fresh CA77 won at an estate auction yesterday...



The motor is siezed but should make a good base for restoration.
Came with brand new OEM exhaust pipes and ignition points.
Inside of the tank is shiny.

Nice looking project!! My neighbour had one when I was a kid.. always thought those square shocks were.. well, different.

What is that called on the front? Leading link suspension?

Excellent find! That brings back memories. I had a black CA72 when in highschool back in the '60s. It was way underpowered but that didn't matter. Have fun bringing it back to life.

Er, check yer tank emblems...you might wanna switch left for right. In the picture, I think yer flyin' backwards there

It's amazing to find one of these with the fenders intact. Most of them were horibly bobbed.

Here's a picture of the right side.



The wing on the emblems both point to the right.
Is this correct or should they be reversed as dntemp_ca states?
I was told they'd have a plastic cover and were painted on from the
backside but that isn't the case at all. They are enamel painted on
the front with no cover.

You have to of the same side emblem rather than a left and a right. Also you have the later reproduction emblems that Honda was selling to replace the original plastic ones that are very rare and break easy.

Catch my earlier post about freeing up a stuck engine. I've done a bunch of them and often you can run the engine without a teardown.

I had a black one back in the late 60's. Don't remember the CA designation ,we all talked about bikes by their engine size. Never ran right, but did run.

The owner's manual was a hoot to read. Adjusting the carburetor mixture:
"Turning in with screwing driver until engine is black smoking and reverse position 1/2 turn..."
Something lost in the translation back then...

nice find, but a peculiar (sp?) bike. I have 3 of the dirt versions (1 running and 2 pats bikes) the cl77. I think of 65 vintage. Was froze when i got them free from my uncle because they sat outside for twenty or so years but by rocking it back and forth at the crank the old 305 was purring to life again. Very heavy bike when it is laying on top of you it seemed to always run rich, and i never got the charging system to work. But at about 10.5 volts the bike would scream. I was totally lost but you would feel it all of a sudden just kick it. You would be cruising around and the all of a sudden like a two stroke it would just go.

I did get the motor unstuck by putting it in gear and rocking it. It actually didn't take very many tries. I had Kroil in the cylinders for about a month.

So far, I've got new handlebars, seat cover, and tank badges (thank dntemp_ca for pointing that out) for the project.
