  • XS850 vs XS750

Can anyone tell me if their is a difference in the electrical sysems for a complete wiring harness change. I have another project bike. An 81 XS850 Special. I found one on Ebay for a 750, Will it work? Also, are their any differences between the 1980 and 1981 years?

Try the Yamaha Triples site. They got got a forum feature now. Just like here there are a ton of triple riders and someone should be able to help you.

Well I went to the triples web site and dug around for a bit. I really don't want to become a member of their ring just to ask a question. I did find out that the interchangability is great. But the wireing harnesses are slightly different. I kinda expected that. I think I might be able to save this one, Just going to take a little time.

Did you take a look at the wiring diagrams on the triples site? I see they have diagrams for both the 750 and 850. Your first might be to just see how they compare with connections and components.

Well I got the XS850 outta the shop. I repaired all the hashings this girl did to it. She said " I cut all of those wires to make it look good, I guess I shouldn'ta cut em. I'll not cut any more " I told her good. They're there for a reason. It's outta the shop as of a couple of days ago.

I have a 850, on which I inspected/repaired the wire harness during the restoration. Don't know much about the 750 harness, but if I can help, let me know.

If you're looking to throw a XS750SF harness on a XS850SH, it won't work. The turn signal switches are laid out differently, and theres and extra light in the pilot box that wouldn't have a feed.
