    '2000 Yamaha XVS1100 V-Star Overcharging?

Today my father was left stranded an hour from home when his battery literally melted itself inside the bike. It was too hot to touch and didnt have any power left at all. He figured that something had shorted out but I figured that if that had occurred, then the wires would be hot also. We replaced the battery and made it home and when we arrived the battery was pretty hot to the touch. Not sure if it was because engine heat however. Well anyway we hooked a volt meter to it and when not running it was 12.5. When it idled it rose to 14-14.5 and at about half throttle it was 16.5. That seems really high to me. What sounds like the culprit? The battery cost $70 and I really dont want to fry another.

Sounds like a voltage regulator to me. Should read about 14.5 max at high RPM.

If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.
