It has been available in the USA for a year or a bit more I believe. That is a seriously nice bike. Amazing that bikes can have such incredible power and handling, yet putt-putt around like a Honda moped. You are looking at within a literal handful of HP of doubling the mighty XS1100 at the rear wheel. In a 420-ish lb bike. Gents, that is about 200 lb less than the XS. Holy "can I strap my butt to a JATO rocket" Batman.
Ever since I owned a V Strom 1000 I have had a soft spot and liking for a "sporting" V-twin. Would love to ride one for the experience, but not a bike I would put in my stable for the price. C14, FJR1300 with some simple exhaust and EFI/throttle body tweaks would match the KTM in power and be more my style of practical.Last edited by Bonz; 01-07-2016, 11:44 PM.Howard

1290 Super Duke R
Yes, indeed Tom ...
You can get the Super Duke here in the U.S.
It features a DOHC, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 1,301cc V-twin with 4 valves per cylinder.
The bike boasts multi-adjustable suspension, Brembo brakes and a seriously powerful and torque-laden engine.
Add to that a 6-speed tranny and a wet weight of around 450 lbs., and you have, well ... great fun anytime you twist the throttle!Marco
Current bikes:
1979 Yamaha XS Eleven Special (SF)
1979 Honda CBX
2002 Kawasaki ZRX1200R
Rest in Peace, Don Glardon (DGXSER) 1966-2014
WE MISS YOU, DON

I would be willing to offer some behavioral modifications should we be able to strike a deal on this fine rig. Please advise.
PS: That thing about the cat is not true. When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

I took a ride on one of these when they first came out. The Honda NC700X is a different riding experience from the standpoint of being a low rpm engine (redline 6500 rpm), torque right off the bottom and the option of a DCT automatic tranny. If I recall, it was barely doing 3000 rpm at 55-60 mph and pulled really well overall. I really like the fuel economy the bike has. Interesting trivia, the bike uses the same bore as the Honda FIT car, with a little shorter stroke for the bike. This engine is basically a de-stroked half size (2 cyl) version of a FIT automobile.

Don't look at the hp so much, look at the torque and that is about 63 ft/lbs at the rear wheel. That matches the XS1100 in terms of what you get at the rear wheel, and comes on right off the bottom vs the XS which is pretty limp until the tach passes 3000-3500 rpm.
Won't have the top speed anywhere near the XS, but that is academic when you talk real world speeds. Nice low rpm motor with a bullet proof track record pretty much.
If you like the bike and it fits good, see what you can do for a deal!Howard

See Bonz you been here before.!Well your right this is not a bad bike,Honda Shadow Spirit.Pleasantly surprised the more I ride it the more I like it. And she pulls right though the gears. What's really nice with the shadow, is that extra gear, that Iam forever searching for in the xs, thats not there...
The other thing I like is forward controls, for the old guy with bad knee this bike works well.!(old guy me).i feel like I am on a motorized wheelchair.!! To funny.
Spring is here Early been riding last couple days, little cold.Tomorrow Sixty five.Bam, I will be riding. !
Xs to go to shop for valve adjustment ,gasket, new front tire.steering head bearings. So she is not mad at me.Be safe everyone.!!Last edited by tomcos67; 03-08-2016, 08:09 PM.1980xs1100.sg Pacifica Fairing ..stock.

Nice! Glad you found this thread again, and I found it again too now! I have an 82 Honda CX500 that is the best riding position of the 3 bikes in my signature for peg placement.
I love my 80SG (or any year Special) but the way Yamaha put the footpegs further back relative to a standard G (or any year standard model XS11) model is stupid. Gonna be the reason I get rid of the Special if I ever do.
My knees aren't "old" but I am a tall drink of water and the knee angle sucks on the SG.Howard
