It's old. That being said, you have to assume it has been neglected. It needs a complete service check, if nothing else. Start with all fluids, grease, hoses, etc. It's Achilles heel is the stator. You have to remove the engine to replace it. They fail due to contamination in the electrical connector.

IMHO, the price is extremely high. Great bikes if properly maintained. (So I'm told)

1983 was the last year for the GL1100

I always heard the old Goldwings like to leak oil, but I don't have any firsthand experience with one. I kinda like the way they look, though.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Pretty pricey. Sign up on the Goldwing site and quiz them.

I like the earlier years of the 1100's they were alot lighter after 83 they became too bulky for my tastes...

That bulk included an upgraged front end, far superior to the earlier units.

              1984 or newer

              Tom,

Based on your comments from the other GoldWing thread you started yesterday, it certainly sounds like you're looking at a GoldWing 1200/4-cyl.

Honda produced the 1200's for model years 1984-1987 ... then for the '88 model year, the company finally went to the 1500/6-cyl.

                Not Running

The not running condition does not equal the asking price - too much $.

Before you even consider purchase, a compression check is in order. It could reveal a $400 or less Gold Wing. At this point, it does not really matter how it was running when last operated. May want to pass on this one. Hunt up a nice XS1100 instead.

Yes, the 84 1200 had more stator problems than the 83 1100's.

                      Agreed ...

The $2,500 price is way too high for a non-runner ... the bike is "too much of an unknown".

Here's some interesting technical info on the '84-85 goldwings as they rolled out of the factory - Honda GL1200. Doesn't really tell you anything about how well it's survived the last thirty years, but interesting nonetheless.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
