  • 82 Yamaha Maxim

    Hello,
Love my 1100, but I am finding it is not so practical for daily driver.
Considering a deal on CL for an 82 maxim 750 and parts bike for 700.
The good bike has all badges and parts that appear original. The catch is that the working parts bike engine must be swapped for the good bike engine.
Hence the cheaper price. Not afraid of a project like that though.
I would appreciate any info regarding these bikes, as well as what I should look for that might hint at serious trouble.
    Thanks to all,
    David

    hi David,
The XJ750 is an excellent bike. What makes your 1100 unsuitable for daily riding?

The XJ750s are prone to the primary chain guide falling apart and pieces going into the gears making it so that you cant shift. To fix it you need to split the case (I have done this twice). They get 45 to 50 mpg and are a little lighter than the 1100. It is a good commuter bike once you have done the maintenance to bring it up to snuff.
