Yamaha XSR700

My initial reaction was mixed but the more i look at it the more i like it...Obviously not everyone's cup of tea...but it has some elements of retro styling with up to date technology...based from the FZ-07 I think this looks better...the only thing I dont like is the radiator..it stands out too much...

Agreed about that rad; looks fine on the MT07 but fugly on the XS. Pretty cool looking bike though. The bmw RGS scramblers have that vibe too, but kudos to Yamaha for actually making it that way. I like the retro styling when it doesn't look like a wannabe classic, when they mesh it well with modern style. Except that radiator like you pointed out. They should shape it different and paint it black.

Bet that twin sounds sexy with that shorty pipe.

689cc, so it's a watercooled, smog version of the XS650 twin.

First you have to ditch that stupid radiator, you won't need it for barhopping. After you remove the front brake and the speedo', cut up the frame at random places and add straight pipes. Hang a set of apes with gremlin bells and tassels over a 3 liter peanut tank, a springer front, a hardtail rear and a chromed tractor seat.

Close! But that looks like at least a 8 or 10 liter tank.

I don't think a stripped down watercooled engine will look as good as an aircooled engine but with a Sawzall and a angle grinder you know anything is possible. You could throw enough time and money at one to pull it off before parting it out on eBay, use lots of chrome and billet.

But why wait twenty years? Guys are buying brand new $30 and $40K bikes to carve, err, customize. I couldn't find a chrome tractor seat but this's what I was thinking of with the straights and apes:

I know, it should'a been chromed! There probably wasn't enough left in the budget after those pipes, making a joyful noise unto the Lord had to have cost some serious Samolians.

Now let's see. 50 MPH, or as fast as he is willing to flog it, and the tassels flowing back in the wind stream, they get tangled in the pipe bracket, he comes to a corner, and can't quite get enough left turn to stay on the road, uh, I don't see a good end to this.
