My Dad found this thing for sale, I'm assuming it's an XJ650 turbo, anyone have any info on these machines? Is it a pain to work on a turbo bike?

Hey, Kev -
Yeah, that looks like an '82 Seca Turbo ...
I believe our member IanDMacDonald has a couple of these in his stable ... hopefully he will chime in shortly.
I'm sure he can give you a lot of info about these bikes ...Last edited by Prisoner6; 05-31-2015, 06:18 AM.Marco

Yes sir, I have two. One is silver, the other is yellow. How am I only 30 and have so many bikes? I sparked my dad's hobby with my first bike: 1965 Honda Cub 50. From that point, it was a bunch of Honda CB350/360's, CB400's, CX500, junk KZ440, Yamaha XS750, the Secas, then the Motherload Hayabusa. When I turned 17, he bought me a new CBR600. After that, I bought a GSX750R. Then my dad died, and my mom threatened to put all the bikes at the bottom of the driveway with a FREE sign. So, I inherited the bikes under duress
Back to the Turbos. They're fun bikes to ride while working, but that is never long. The Turbos chargers are plagued with oiling issues. Many don't know that the Turbos are a 4-1 exhaust, with the left side being a dummy pipe, utilized only as a waste gate for the Turbo charger. I'll actually be listing them for sale as a set for cheap in a couple of weeks. Not worth the headache to wonder if the turbo needs to be rebuilt or not (not cheap).
It was a neat idea that a few followed, but did not catch-on, and eventually died. Stay away from the bike, and instead look for a non-abused GSXR, CBR or even an FJ if ur into the older bikes.1979 XS1100F

Motorcycle Classics has covered these. They certainly have a following, but are probably rare.Marty (in Mississippi)
