    '82 920 Virago

My brother bought this virago for $500 last summer that was sitting out in a guy's yard for a while. Bike starts and runs but seems to be having a fuel delivery issue. There is only one petcock on the left side, has a T below the petcock and one line comes down to the rear carb (#1 I think) and then the other line loops around in front of the front carb and then supplies fuel to that one. The issue is air in the line that loops around to the front carb. You can't see fuel in the line, but if you open the drain screw in the bottom of the bowl then the fuel runs right through it. Is there some kind of venting process on these carbs that might be plugged so fuel isn't flowing freely to this front carb?

If the 920 is anything similar to the 1100 Virago there is a fuel pump just below the battery on the right side. There is a reserve tank on the left side and that is where the fuel is drawn from. When the fuel in the main tank gets low enough to kick the low fuel light on it kills the fuel pump until you switch it to reserve.

You should hear the fuel pump working for a second or 2 when you turn the key on.

You can hear it when I turn the key in this video.

Is that ticking sound I hear the fuel pump Greg? You're thinking it might not be working on this 920, or it might be weak?

Yeah, click click click. It is a very low pressure pump anyway. Check and be sure it's getting power.

If it's been sitting the carbs will ned to come off and get cleaned. A real PITA.

The boots have to come off WITH the carbs. I had to build a SPECIAL wrench.

          Some searching turned this up...http://www.ultsoftware.com/images/Vi...el_Systems.pdf
So it looks like the 920 didn't have a fuel pump.

              Hey Billy,

You do know what the translation of the word "Virago" is, don't you?

Miles Baker knows... He used to have one, too.
