  • Ceramic coating of headers

I thought people might want to see the results on ceramic coating of header pipes. I'd often heard about ceramic coating but never actually seen any pix. I just had the headers done on my XJR and here's a few pix of the results. The finish is smooth and described as satin black by the people who did it. The greyish discolouration at the top of the header in the fist pic is actually dust from the shredded paper packing used to return the headers.

James since you have both, can you measure the exhaust from the XJR to see if it would fit an XS11?

Since it uses a similar ring pulldown arrangement and may be spaced right to work as a source of new pipes. Maybe not in the US but Europe/Australia.

      Thx

I did have both, John, but sold the last XS1100. Im looking for another one now.

The XJR was developed from the XS1100 to a great extent. The header diameter is approx 38mm OD on a single stainless header and the stud centres are approx 64mm apart. I would suspect that the XJR headers would fit an XS1100, perhaps with little or no modification.

The stainless XJR headers are readily available here and many places ship internationally

Well, it kind of went that way. I put stainless headers on and also the collector box underneath but stainless can discolour oddly sometimes. So I thought I'd give the ceramic coating a try. I'm very pleased with it. It's nice to be off the leash with a bike that I can modify without bothering about the OEM look (like I do with the XS1100's). all the fasteners and axles are titanium, the cans are carbon-fibre and the wheels are forged alloy, so I've managed to take 30kg off the weight of the bike and it handles like a 650 now. There's a load of other mods I've done, including Dynojets in the carbs etc and the bike really does fly.
