  • Looking at an '84 Honda V65 Sabre

I read Moto's thread, and don't expect much more than his expectations. Then again, I was not impressed with the XS11's power upon purchase.

Anywho, it's listed for $500 running. Not great-looking. Missing a side cover (many on ebay), and claims the carb sealant needs replacing. I presume he means the manifolds?

I'm aware of their issues, so if it looks like too much of a money pit, I'll walk away. The cam issue scares me, as these engines are not easy to come by, nor are the all-digital instrument gauges. I'll let you guys know.

Hi Ian, actually that 65 I rode SHOULD of ripped. As quiet at it was, I suspect it could of used a valve adjustment(easy enough with a loc-nut and adj. screw). IT WAS in excellent condition for the asking $1700, and was the fairing/shield model. Having had my Venturer a couple yrs. when they came out, I was always fasinated by them, plus they held braggin' rights all three yrs. of production.
At some 117ponies at the crank, and the reputation they had(V65Sabre was a bit quicker than the V65Magna), that particular one, even though owned by an older gentleman(71) from new, seemed to be missin' something power-wise, and I did NOT want a project.
Interesting that majority of riders that owned the Honda V65series from new now own Honda ST's.
Alot of them joke, saying the ST is just a 65 Sabre with the motor turned the correct direction.
I imagine power is similar, with the ST being 100hp, AT the wheel.
81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

The guy ended-up selling it, so I bought a new helmet.
