    Maxium X?

    Thought I was pretty well dialed in to the whole Yamaha line and history. Came across a '86 Maxium X on Craigs List. Never heard of one. Water cooled, 5 valve motor, shaft drive. Looks like a baby XS. New one on me. No, I aint gonna buy it.

    The "I" and the "U" are next to each other on the keyboard. A simple typo. It's an XJ700 Maxim X. Yes, a 5-valve motor. Fun bike to putz-around on.

      Yep, I remember the Maxim X ...

      Actually, in 1985-86, Yamaha produced 2 versions of the XJ700 Maxim for the U.S. market ...

      The standard air-cooled, 2-valve Maxim and the "high-performance" 'X' version with the liquid-cooled, 5-valve "Genesis" engine.

      These were both "tariff-beaters", designed to circumvent the tariff imposed on over-700cc imports which H-D had successfully petitioned the U.S. govt. for ...
