FWIW, I paid Cdn$2,400 for my '84 Heritage Special when I bought it NOS from a Winnipeg Yamaha dealer in '86.
Looks like the ~$6K+ selling price means it sold for ~ new price if you consider the inflation factor.

    Paid $1269 for a brand new 77 650 D, end of 77.
I have no idea what the MSRP on my XS650SK was. I remember the dealer in Daytona Beach had one and they had a king/queen seat on it. I think they wanted more than $2500 for the bike (I really don't remember) and they wouldn't put the stock seat back on it or haggle on the price. I went to Beach Yamaha in New Smyrna Beach where the had an XS650SJ and an XS650SK, each bike was priced $1795 and I remember getting the bike home for under $2K. I still have the bike and had it out for a spin a few days ago.

This bike had a reserve of less than $800. I am sure the seller is surprised and happy. Good for him.

Wow. This was exciting to follow. I would have guessed right around half that price.

They keep climbing! That's the first time I've seen a Special go that high. Back in the day, the Special II was the less popular plain Jane version. It seems to be the more desirable one now.

    museum only ?

Put some new tires on it and ride for that price. Cheaper than a new comparable bike.
