    Hi, Bne -

I have absolutely no doubt that the FJ-09 is a wonderful and extremely capable motorcycle ... and I'm sure riding it would be a blast!

But the "Transformer" styling of this bike is, to my eyes, ugly and unappealing ... especially for a sport-touring Yamaha bearing the "FJ" moniker.

Yes, Yamaha has the FJR1300 to handle the long-haul sport-touring duties, but IMO, any Yamaha bearing the "FJ" name should look something like this:

    OLD SCHOOL

I know the FJ1200 hasn't been available here for over 20 years, but seriously, how many of my fellow XSives prefer the FJ-09 styling to that of the gorgeous FJ1200?

I've owned 2 FJ1200s Marco...Yes the classic look is clean and appeals to the eye...BUT..I like Yamaha's new offerings as well...that transformer look isnt that bad...Now the Honda CTXs' and the Vultus those are really ugly comparatively speaking...But as always...YMMV

Do you remember the VW Beetle ads? Ugly is beautiful well its either you love it or you hate it...much in the same vein with the new looks of today's bike designs...I cannnot tell you how many times I thought something was ugly until I rode/drove it..Suddenly its beautiful...and the feeling you get from what it does to you trancends all else...

Blasphemy Ben! Those new CTX/Valks are the cat's meow! Was at the dealership the other day, and that Valk was screaming at me to just own him. Those Valks would never bear a woman's name if owned, too much steroid-induced testosterone going on with the looks!

And, that Yammy above is one angry, sexy looking bike!

              Well,

When it comes to motorcycles, as with so many other things in life, beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.

No matter how great this new FJ-09 is (something I alluded to in my earlier post), and no matter how much fun it is to ride ...

After every ride, as I would walk away from this bike, I'd turn around and think, 'Wow, this thing is ugly.'

And, for me, a bike absolutely must be aesthetically pleasing, or I will quickly begin to dislike it ...

Even if it is the fastest, quickest, most comfortable, best-handling bike I've ever ridden!

Some will like the look of the FJ-09, and that's great!

But I think a Yamaha "FJ" model deserves better styling than this ... but that's just me ...

Maybe I'm hopelessly enured to earlier generation motorcycle styling ... who knows?

                  Hmmmnnn....
Yamaha must have changed their marketing minds....

When it first came out as the MT-09, Cycle World reported that it wouldn't be offered here in the US.

My question is... What is supposed to make it a tourer?
At least, by that pic I wouldn't wanna tour on it.

Small windscreen, chain drive, no hard bags, high pegs, very little fairing protection...
                  Cruise or throttle lock?

I don't think this bike would have appealed to me even when I was in my 20's. Maybe for short rides around town, but not for long, interstate touring.

                  Am I missing something?

Looks like a semi-naked street fighter to me.

This would be a lightweight Sport Touring bike Bob...and I'm sure theres hard bags for it...just dont show it yet because this isnt an official Yamaha release...just the industry spies on the prowl...
The FJ1200 and the GTS1000 were sport touring bikes that initially came without hard bags BTW...

Looks like something from Mad Max (pun intended) it has no heart. Pure scientific machine.

                        Don't get me wrong, Ben...

I bet those are a total blast.

That FZ-07 that was at the rally looked pretty good, too.
And it's not as fast (or powerful) as the FZ-09.

I was just speaking from a touring aspect.
